Design Of An Age-appropriate Orientation Signage System For Geriatric Hospitals

With the increasing ageing of the population,the issue of geriatric care is becoming more and more prominent,and in this context,geriatric hospitals have emerged as specialist hospitals for the treatment of geriatric diseases.With the support of relevant policies,geriatric hospitals have been developing rapidly in recent years,but while the environment and medical facilities have been optimised,their internal design has been stagnant,especially the design of the guidance signage system,which is not only lacking in aesthetics,but also relatively backward in functionality,which greatly affects the efficiency of elderly patients’ medical treatment.In this context,this thesis focuses on the age-appropriate design of guidance signage systems in geriatric hospitals,aiming to provide the best wayfinding experience for the elderly.This thesis takes the basic process of guiding signage information communication as the focus point,and interprets age-appropriate design from the perspective of the needs of the elderly,combining the physiological and psychological conditions of the elderly,developing the visual,auditory,mobility,cognitive and psychological needs of the elderly from the perspective of guiding signage system design elements one by one,specifically elaborating on the text,layout,graphic signs,colours,point layout,scale,sound and light aids,materials and intelligent The design of age-appropriate signage systems is interpreted from multiple perspectives.Afterwards,the content of the exposition is analysed and summarised,and the design principles and corresponding humanistic thinking of the age-appropriate orientation and signage system for geriatric hospitals are summarised,based on functionality,systematicity and accessibility,and extended to fun,interactive and emotional expressions,further improving the theoretical research related to the design of age-appropriate orientation and signage system,and providing basic design strategies for the orientation and signage system of geriatric hospitals.Finally,taking Jinqiu Geriatric Hospital as a case study of age-appropriate retrofitting of the guidance signage system,we analyse the existing situation of Jinqiu Hospital,combine the results of questionnaire surveys and in-depth user interviews,summarise the corresponding design requirements,and then propose specific optimisation solutions from the perspective of age-appropriate design elements to provide reference for the age-appropriate retrofitting of the existing geriatric hospital guidance signage system and promote the overall construction of the geriatric hospital.
