| English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition)mentioned that language knowledge is included in the content of regular senior high school English curriculum,and language knowledge covers phonetics,vocabulary,grammar,discourse and pragmatic knowledge.Therefore,grammar plays an important role in language knowledge.In the actual grammar teaching,teachers focus on explaining grammar knowledge and rules,resulting in little effect of grammar teaching.The Focus on Form teaching method emphasizes language’s accuracy and fluency.Therefore,in this study,Focus on Form teaching method is applied in the teaching of English relative clauses in senior high school,in order to improve the students’ grammatical ability,so the subjects can build stronger confidence in the learning of English grammar.The theoretical basis of this research is Attention Hypothesis,Interaction Hypothesis and Information Processing.A total of 80 subjects were tested in this study,including 38 students in the experimental class and 42 students in the control class.The subjects of the study were all students from two classes in the first grade of a middle school in Kekedala City,Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.This research adopts the experimental method,testing method and text analysis method to verify the feasibility and validity of Focus on Form in improving senior high school students in using the relative clauses’ Grammar Comprehension Ability,Controlled Production Ability,the total amount,frequency and syntactic complexity.This study will include a big research question: from the perspective of immediate and delayed analysis,what effect does the application of Focus on Form method in the teaching of English relative clauses in high school have on the grammatical ability of the subjects? Among them,this big research question includes the following three small research questions: First,how does the application of Focus on Form method in the teaching of English relative clauses in senior high school affect the subjects’ Grammar Comprehension Ability? Second,how does the application of Focus on Form method in the teaching of English relative clauses in senior high school affect the subjects’ Controlled Production Ability? Third,how does the application of Focus on Form method in the teaching of English relative clauses in senior high school affect the total amount,frequency and syntactic complexity of relative clauses used by the subjects?After a three-month experiment,it is found that: from the perspective of immediate and delayed time,First,the application of Focus on Form method in the teaching of English relative clauses in senior high school can improve the subjects’ Grammar Comprehension Ability;Second,The application of the Focus on Form method in the teaching of relative clause teaching in senior high school English can improve the subjects’ Controlled Production Ability;Third,the application of Focus on Form method in the teaching of relative clauses in senior high school English has no significant effect on the total amount and frequency of subjects using relative clauses.However,from the perspective of time delay,the application of Focus on Form method in the teaching of English relative clauses in senior high school can improve students’ the average sentence length(MLS),sentence complexity(C/S),unit density(C/T,DC/C).The implications of this study for the teaching of English relative clauses in senior high schools are as follows: First,teachers can try to integrate negotiation strategies into grammar teaching to improve learners’ understanding of target grammatical structures;Second,teachers can try to incorporate reinforcement input Strategies are integrated into grammar teaching to promote students’ attention and understanding of target grammar;Third,teachers can try to measure the acquisition effect of target grammatical structures by means of oral production. |
