On Translation Of Documentary Literature Under The Guidance Of Text Typology Theory

Based on the translation practice of the first chapter of Press Reset:Ruin and Recovery in the Video Game Industry,the author of this thesis analyzed language features of the translation material and explored some translation methods on documentary literature texts under the guidance of Katharina Reiss’ Text Typology theory.Reiss divides texts into three types:the expressive,the informative and the vocative.Different types of texts have different functions.The expressive text takes author’s thought as a core and the expressive elements should be emphasized in the process of translation.The informative text emphasizes the truth of the information and the accuracy of information delivery should be focused on during translation.The vocative text regards the target readers as a core and target readers’response should be emphasized.Reiss points out that a text may have different text functions at the same time,but it is always dominated by a certain function.Reiss’translation method is centered on the target language.In Translation criticism:The potentials and limitations,Reiss mentioned that the translator must find and transform the form similar to the original in the target language.The translation material is an excerpt from a documentary literature text.which boasts expressive and informative features.The author of this thesis analyzed the language features of the translation material from word,sentence and discourse perspective,such as the frequent use of video game terminology,polysemy,acronym,figurative expression,long and complex sentence and passive voice,use of reference as grammatical cohesion,and use of reiteration as lexical cohesion and discussed some translation strategies and methods through analyzing specific cases,such as literal translation,liberal translation,translation of passive sentence,division and reconstruction.In conclusion,the author of this thesis holds that Text Typology is applicable on the translation of documentary literature texts.In the E-C translation process on documentary literature texts,translators need to convey accurate information of the source language and to improve the readability of translation.
