Cross-Dialect Investigation Of Chinese Overlapping Nouns

The overlapping nouns discussed in this article refer specifically to compound words composed of overlapping means,and overlapping methods include simple overlap and comprehensive overlap.The theoretical background is structuralist linguistics and historical linguistics,in which argumentation methods are combined with deductive methods and inductive methods,and discussions are based on specific linguistic facts.Overlapping nouns are distributed in the Official dialects,Jin,Xiang,Wu,Gan,and Min,and are not only numerous,but also rich in types.Its structural types mainly include AA type,AAX type,ABB type and AAB type,of which AA type is the most basic structural form,its most productive and widest distribution range.The AA formula is an early structural form,and the AAX formula is a later one,which can be verified in Chinese dialects.This is due to the different development of AA-style overlapping nouns in the Chinese dialects,which has led to the overlapping and coexistence pattern of AA-style and AAX-style,and the expansion and bi-sounding of Chinese vocabulary are the two main reasons for the emergence and development of overlapping nouns.Both ABB and AAB are secondary overlaps and have very low productivity.The most prominent role of overlap is to change the meaning of words,and the specific meaning of overlapping nouns often has a tendency to indicate specific meanings.These types of overlapping nouns all have a tendency to refer to small meanings,often with subjective emotional colors and strong colloquial colors.On the basis of cross-dialect investigation,this paper focuses on the north-south distribution of overlapping nouns,overlap and nounization,overlap and nickname,and the complementary distribution of overlapping Chinese word formations.The conclusion is that:(1)The unbalanced distribution of overlapping nouns in the northern and southern dialects is mainly caused by the "southern complexity and northern simplicity" in the Chinese phonetic system.(2)The evidence of Chinese facts is gathered to one point,and does not support the nounization of Chinese overlapping,and the basic form of overlapping nouns can be understood as noun components.(3)Overlap is one of the effective means of expressing the concept of nickname in Chinese,although overlapping nouns often indicate nicknames,but overlap is not necessarily related to the expression of small titles.(4)Chinese word overlap and conformal overlap are mutually exclusive,AA overlapping nouns are constructed overlapping,AA nouns generally do not participate in conformal overlap.These reflections will deepen our understanding of the differences between the north and the south of Chinese dialects,and will also deepen our understanding of the native Chinese language.
