Since ancient times under the influence of Confucian cultural thought,Chinese people’s every word and deed is governed by the rules of etiquette, attaching importance to the important traditional virtue of protocol. In the process of dealing with others, people inevitably come into conflict with others. In order to maintain good relations with others, people need to work together to comply with the code of etiquette and morality in the process of interaction, and to avoid conflicts with others over issues of politeness.Nowadays, more and more foreigners are learning Chinese. To ensure smooth communication, the use of polite language is an important part of the intercultural communication process. In order to better help Chinese learners understand the usage patterns of Chinese polite terms,it is necessary to investigate and study the polite terms in international Chinese education. The focus of this paper is to investigate the problems that learners encounter in using polite phrases in Chinese and the problems that teachers encounter in teaching polite phrases in Chinese, based on previous research on the ontology of polite phrases. The results of the survey are analysed to summarise the shortcomings in the teaching process and the reasons for learners’ errors. The polite phrases used in the textbooks are then analysed on the basis of two types of textbooks,HSK Standard Course and the local Korean Chinese textbook (?)(My Fearless Chinese(Life)).Based on the study of learners, teachers and the textbooks,we propose strategies for teaching polite expressions in international Chinese language education to help Chinese learners improve their intercultural communication skills. |
