| With the development of technology and the popularization of the Internet,the way of spreading information has become diversified.People are no longer restricted to words or written language to express meanings.Instead,images,animation,colors,sounds and other multimodal ways are also used to express meanings.Therefore,to meet the need of this multimodal information age,it is necessary to cultivate students’ multiliteracies.At the same time,multimodal teaching is widely employed by teachers,which supplies a favorable condition for cultivating students’ multilitercies.Multiliteracies not only includes text reading ability but also multimodal reading abilities such as visual reading ability,sound reading ability,spatial reading ability and gesture reading ability.Relevant researches demonstrate that students’ multiliteracies need to be further improved,and multimodal teaching is greatly helpful in improving students’ multiliteracies.So this research takes senior two high school students as the research subjects to investigate the present situation of students’ multiliteracies and explore the existing problems.Through this study,the author hopes to optimize high school English reading teaching and offer some suggestions for the cultivation of high school students’ multiliteracies.This research intends to answer the following two questions:(1)What is the present situation of senior high school students’ text reading ability,multimodal symbol reading ability,and their ability of searching for information in the multimodal resources?(2)What are the problems of developing students’ multiliteracies in the multimodal English teaching environment? How to solve those problems?In this research,a questionnaire survey,interviews and classroom observations are conducted with 200 students and 4 teachers as participants.The research results show that:(1)High school students’ multiliteracies is weak.(2)Most high school students do not have the awareness to cultivate multiliteracies.(3)Some factors such as time and conditions limit the development of students’ multiliteracies.(4)In the multimodal classroom,teachers have some problems in the arrangement of multimodal resources,which leads to the unbalanced development of students’ multiliteracies.Based on the analysis of the survey results,the author provides the following advice:(1)Teachers should change their teaching ideas,and attach importance to the cultivation of students’ multiliteracies.(2)Teachers should continue to adopt multimodal teaching in class,and arrange different multimodal resources in a proper way.(3)The existing evaluation system should be optimized to ensure that students’ multiliteracies can be measured and developed. |
