| English writing is one of the basic language skills that senior high school students must master.However,the English writing ability of senior high school students is relatively weak.In order to stimulate students’ writing interest and improve their writing ability,many researchers try to apply brainstorming to senior high school English writing teaching,and they have proved the effectiveness of brainstorming in senior high school English writing teaching.However,there are few studies to investigate the implementation situation of pre-writing brainstorming in senior high school English writing teaching.Therefore,this study takes 175 senior two students and 3 English teachers as the research subjects to investigate the practical application and existing problems of applying brainstorming in senior high school English writing teaching.Through this study,the author hopes that brainstorming can be applied more efficiently to senior high school English writing teaching so as to improve students’ English writing ability.This study intends to answer the following three questions:(1)What is the current situation of implementing brainstorming activities before senior high school students’ English writing?(2)What is the current situation of students’ participation in pre-writing brainstorming activities? To what extent do pre-writing brainstorming activities affect the English writing of the investigated students?(3)What are the problems that exist in the application of pre-writing brainstorming to senior high school English writing teaching? How to solve these problems?Through the analysis of the questionnaire and interview results,this study draws the following conclusions:(1)The overall implementation of pre-writing brainstorming activities is at a moderate level.(2)Most students participate in the pre-writing brainstorming activities,but the overall participation situation is not very good.(3)Pre-writing brainstorming activities have high effects on some aspects of English writing of investigated students.(4)There are still the following problems in the application of pre-writing brainstorming: insufficient time for students’ individual brainstorming and group brainstorming;unreasonable grouping;ignoring class brainstorming;insufficient vocabulary and new knowledge input;students’ unwillingness to evaluate their peer opinions in group discussion;students’ fear of English writing.The author of this study puts forward the following suggestions to solve the above problems.(1)Promote teachers’ awareness of the positive effects of pre-writing brainstorming on students’ English writing.(2)Enrich teachers’ theoretical knowledge of applying brainstorming to English writing teaching.(3)Optimize the implementation method of pre-writing brainstorming activities. |
