| Listening is the most basic and common way to obtain language information.Similarly,English listening is an important part of English testing.With the rapid development of educational technology,more and more scholars are paying attention to the application and effect of the use of mobile devices in English listening and learning.However,a review of the literature suggested few studies have been conducted on junior high school students’ use of mobile devices to conduct autonomous English listening learning.This study uses questionnaires and interviews to study the current situation,including the problems of junior high school students who use mobile devices to learn English listening,and give corresponding suggestions,to promote the effect of its use on junior high school students’ English listening learning.Through a questionnaire survey in which 328 junior high school students participated,and interviews with six students,this study answers the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of junior high school students’ mobile-assisted autonomous English listening learning?(2)What are the perceptions of junior high school students about mobile-assisted autonomous English listening learning?(3)What are the factors affecting junior high school students’ use of mobile technology to promote autonomous English learning?The results of this study show the following.First,most junior high school students use mobile devices for autonomous listening learning outside the school,with an average learning time of one to two hours per week.The most commonly used listening learning software is the electronic textbook.Second,junior high school students perceived their autonomous listening learning by using mobile technologies is quite good;they scored the highest in learning goals and plans,followed by social interaction and emotional motivation,learning evaluation and reflection,and learning methods and habits.Third,through interviews,we have learned that the most important factor that prompt junior high school students to use mobile technology to conduct autonomous English learn is perceived usefulness,which is embodied by convenience and abundant resources.Obstacles are students’ distraction when using mobile devices and the low efficiency caused by distractions.In addition,students’ self-control ability,teacher requirements,and the characteristics of listening learning materials are factors that affect the students’ use of mobile technology for autonomous listening learning.In accordance with the research results,this paper puts forward the following suggestions.First,the students’ interest in autonomous listening should be improved,as well as their ability to self-monitor and self-reflect in the listening process.Second,positive comments must be given to students during and after the learning process.This research will help English teachers and scholars to further understand the situation of students using mobile technologies to learn listening independently and provide data support to policy makers to improve the overall English learning. |
