The 3D fragments reassembly is important in many fields,such as the restoration of cultural relics.For the Chinaware fragments’ reassembly,there is very little available work,and most of them belong to the reassembly of single Chinaware fragments.But real-world artifact restoration should be fragment reassembly of multi-Chinaware.Therefore,this paper studies the fragments’ reassembly of multi-Chinaware.This paper proposes an iterative framework for automatic reassembly of 3D fragments,which is analogous to the manual assembly.The fragments belonged to multiple Chinaware.Each iteration includes two steps: fragment fracture surface contour extraction and fracture surface contour matching.The main processes are as follows.First,the fracture surface is segmented using the 2D slope information on the fragment edge.Second,divides the fracture surface into one-to-one and one-to-many situations for matching.Third,builds a matching set for each fracture surface contour,and performs contour matching in this set.Fourth,pairwise matching is performed using feature-based registration.This paper proposes a new linear feature descriptor for the contour of the fracture surface,improving matching accuracy.Fifth,after one round of iteration is over,if no match is found for the fragment,the fragment enters the next round of iteration.Sixth,iteratively adjust fragments after initial reconstruction according to the gap between the fragments.In this paper,18 porcelains,a total of 103 pieces,have been tested,and all fragments got accurate reassembly results.Experiments are also carried out for special cases,including fragment reassembly with missing fragments and with redundant fragments.The experimental results showed the robustness of method.The method can reassemble fragments quickly and effectively.This method can accurately and robustly realize the reassembly of mixed fragments of multiple utensils.It provides good support for the restoration of cultural relics.
