Art Deco is a design style that emerged in Paris in the 1920 s and was used in visual arts, architecture and transport. It was known for its pursuit of bright colours, streamlined geometric decorations and strange and expensive materials, experimenting with all available elements in order to achieve "decorative" purposes.Art Deco was widely spread around the world in 1925 through the Paris World’s Fair and was so popular that it was a major influence on the artistic expression of many countries, including the coastal cities of China, and was particularly prominent and farreaching in Shanghai. With the development and growth of the New Culture Movement, people were more tolerant of foreign cultures, and although Art Deco was a popular art form in the West,it still influenced Shanghai’s art and design, ultimately having a profound impact on the culture of the modern city.It was not until the 1940 s,with the outbreak of the Second World War,that the pursuit of functionality and simplicity in design led to the gradual decline of Art Deco,a style that represented luxury. In terms of theoretical research, this paper identifies the factors that influenced the sense of order in the Art Deco style, clarifies the characteristics and sources of the graphic language of the Art Deco style, and shows the social and aesthetic psychology of the 1920 s and 1940 s,when people pursued luxury style due to the rising material standards of the booming industry. The focus is on the elements of the Art Deco style’s graphic sense of order, and analyses the process of graphic creation, bringing in the theory of visual perception, combining the formal effects of the human eye’s observation of pictures to produce graphic order with the theory, and finally sorting out the ways in which visual focus, visual psychology and other factors of graphic order exist in Art Deco graphics. At the level of design application, starting from its visual elements and formal effects, the existing Art Deco style graphics are organised and dismantled, and its regularity is found."The design of the book design and the Art Deco Art Promotion Week is a practical application of Art Deco graphics.
