Dai Kui is a famous thinker and literary artist in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. His artistic creation not only witnessed the development and change of academic thought and plastic art in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, but also reflected a kind of historical transition and pioneering, which has important reference value for the study of the development of culture and art in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. On the basis of previous studies, this paper makes a comprehensive study of Dai Kui ’ s life, thought and art through literature research, iconography and comparative archaeological excavation data. This paper is divided into three parts. This paper is divided into three parts. The first part mainly examines Dai Kui’sbirth and death year and life.Dai Kui lived in Jingkou area of Jinling in his early years, and went to Yuzhang in his middle age.Although his life was short,it had an important impact on the formation of his thought. After that,Dai Kui lived in Shan County,Huiji County, where his main works and artistic creation were completed. The second part of the article discusses Dai Kui ’ s academic thoughts from Confucianism,Metaphysics,Zhuang Learning,Buddhism and other aspects. In Confucianism, although Fan Xuan was a teacher of Dai Kui,he was quite different from the Jiangzhou School represented by Fan Xuan and Fan Ning in academic style. In fact,Dai Kui was more deeply affected by Guo Xiang’smetaphysical thought, reflecting the characteristics of both Confucianism and metaphysics.Dai Kui does not exclude Zhuangzi, but Zhuangzi is just a kind of life embellishment for Dai Kui,Confucianism is its ideological foundation.During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, with the development of Buddhism and the deepening of people’sunderstanding of Buddhism, the contradiction between Buddhism and the traditional Chinese cultural system gradually became prominent.Dai Kui’s“interpretation of doubts ” and Huiyuan’sand Zhou Daozu’sreciprocating theory were difficult.Dai Kui criticized the theories of Buddhism such as causal retribution and reincarnation.Influenced by Guo Xiang,he put forward the view of fate and nature, and he also accepted the “persuasion ” role of Buddhism. The third part of the article discusses Dai Kui ’ sartistic thought and creation.Influenced by metaphysics,he not only personally participated in artistic creation activities, but also his art reflected the new characteristics of the educational function of art in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, that is,from the original mode of preaching to entertaining.A major feature of Dai Kui’s art is his pursuit of“romantic charm”,which is also closely related to his metaphysical thoughts.Dai Kui and son play a key role in connecting the preceding and the following in Buddhist statues. He changed the simple style of early Buddhist statues and established a model for later generations.Since then, the statues of Cao Zhongda,Zhang Sengyao,Wu Daoxuan and Zhou Fang have developed from Dai Kui.Finally, this paper analyzes the important position of Dai Kui in the history of Chinese art development. It can be said that Dai Kui is a peak in the development of art in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and its position and role are no less than Gu Kaizhi, but with the rise of the emerging landlord class, its reputation is gradually hidden.
