With the development of relations between China and Thailand and the increasing influence of the Chinese language, the Chinese language has been incorporated into the Thai national education system since 1999;with the promotion of “The Belt and Road”and the agreement between China and Thailand,Thailand has become one of the typical countries for international Chinese language education. In the field of international Chinese language education, polysemous verbs are an important and difficult area of teaching, and “Da” is considered to be one of the most generalized and flexible Chinese polysemous verbs in terms of usage and collocation.During the work experience at School of International Education,Chongqing University,The author found that international students have difficulties in acquiring polysemous verbs through classroom observation and communication with front-line teachers.Considering the large number of Chinese learners in Thailand, the author talked with Zhou Shuifen, the head of the Chinese Department of Yala Rajabhat University as well as an alumnus of Chongqing University, and found that Thai learners have difficulties in acquiring polysemous verbs,so the study on the acquisition of polysemous verbs in Thailand needs to be improved. This study investigates the acquisition of polysemous verbs by Thai learners to understand the specific situation of Thai learners in acquiring the polysemous verb “Da”,to analyse the causes of the errors, and to provide suggestions for the acquisition of polysemous verbs in Thailand by identifying the deficiencies in acquisition. This study is based on a survey of Chinese language learners at Yala Rajabhat University and the Global Chinese Mediated Language Corpus. The data showed that Thai Chinese learners generally found difficulties in acquiring the polysemous verb “Da”.In order to further confirm the specific problems of Thai Chinese learners in acquiring the polysemous verb “Da”,this study uses a corpus survey, questionnaires, test papers and interviews to identify three main problems that Thai learners have in acquiring polysemous verbs: incomplete mastery of the meaning items;unclear identification of word meanings and lexical properties;and heavily influenced by mother tongue.Combining the survey data and the corpus in Chapter 3,the study summarizes the causes of Thai learners’ errors in using the polysemous verb “Da”,which are: Overgeneralization of the meaning items;influence of the mother tongue;poor wordmeaning analysis;and lack of understanding of the grammatical properties of the word.Combining the data from this study with the existing results, this study concludes that the problems of Thai second language acquisition activities related to the acquisition of Chinese polysemous verbs are mainly reflected in two aspects: on the one hand, the acquisition of Thai polysemous verbs is inadequate at the “input” level, mainly in terms of “the amount of input”,“the amount of input” and “the amount of input”;on the other hand,Thai polysemous verbs acquisition is inadequate at the“output” level, mainly because “classroom activities do not meet the requirements for output”,“The materials are not designed to help learners reinforce their output” and“Thai students have little awareness of active output”.Taking into account the above factors, causes of bias and specific problems, this paper makes suggestions for the acquisition of Chinese polysemous verbs in Thailand. |
