"Old Objects" In Contemporary Art

At the beginning of the 20 th century,ready-made works of art appeared for the first time.Ready-made works in daily life were used as materials to create contemporary art,making contemporary art have broader possibilities both in concept expression and artistic creation.So how does an old object play a role in art as a special kind of readymade product? How do old objects in contemporary art express artistic ideas? How are used materials(old objects)embedded in people’s emotions and memories? How to integrate old objects into our creative practice has become a question I think about in the research process.This paper introduces the connotation of old objects,the artistic expression of old objects as materials and the significance of memory in human beings from three aspects to elaborate that the ready-made materials of old objects have an impact on human cultural memory through artistic means,so as to realize individual identity.Old objects are trendy in today’s society and with the prevalence of FMCG(Fast Moving Consumer Goods),old objects with a sense of age appear unique and valuable.This phenomenon,on the contrary,is in line with contemporary people’s pursuit of trendy behavior.The contrast between the second-hand market and the urban decoration of the commercial center and the modern technological society is precisely what arouses people’s desire to retrieve the memories of the past,and these old things are the carriers of these memories.In contemporary art,old objects are selected and recreated by artists,undoubtedly because of the carrying value of objects for memory.If the concept of life and death is raised,the monumentality of old objects will be reflected.Finally,back to the life philosophy of "make the best use of things",make the concept of "things" in creation play to the extreme,arouse collective memory through artistic expression,so as to realize individual identity.Here,old objects serve as a special medium for creation and providing artists with another way of thinking.
