On The Application Of Juxtaposition Graphics In Printmaking Creation

The use of juxtaposed graphics in printmaking has been experimented since the traditional Chinese printmaking technique of press printing.Initially,using the flexibility of printmaking,people repeatedly printed and arranged Buddha images in a regular manner,such as the eighth-century Dunhuang red ink impression of the Thousand Buddhas.As time went on,juxtaposition became more widely used in the field of printmaking and gradually showed its value in the direction of printmaking.It is only logical that the juxtaposition of graphics should be studied and used.The transformation of artists’ thinking about how to apply juxtaposition graphics in printmaking from the perspective of creation reflects their remarkable creativity in the use of printmaking language.Therefore,studying and sorting out the composition and use of juxtaposed graphics in printmaking can not only deepen artists’ understanding of the application of juxtaposed graphics,but also promote the research and development of the language of printmaking in a certain sense.This paper focuses on the application of juxtaposed graphics in printmaking in three parts.First,through the emergence and evolution of juxtaposition in printmaking,the transformation process of juxtaposition as a pictorial language in printmaking art is analyzed,and its aesthetic characteristics in the works are elaborated.At the same time,the expressions of juxtaposed graphics in printmaking works are organized and summarized into two major groups: ‘orderly juxtaposition’ and ‘disorderly juxtaposition’,and analyze their different expressions.Secondly,the theoretical research results are returned to the practice of personal art creation,and the practical process of combining juxtaposed graphics and printmaking is recorded,which is discussed from the perspective of engraving and printing experiments of graphics and how to transform the creative ideas into the language of printmaking,further elaborated from the perspective of the analysis of creative patterns of works.Finally,through theoretical and practical research,I realize that juxtaposition as a special language of printmaking can play a great role in modern printmaking;at the same time,juxtaposition is a form of artistic expression and visual language that cannot be ignored in printmaking,and I hope my research can provide a new possibility for printmakers.
