Richard Diebenkorn(1922-1993)was an American painter of the 20 th century.His works cannot be defined or categorized because of the abstract and figurative elements in his works.He always adhered to a deep and personal visual style based on his unique representation of landscapes and people.Kandinsky said,"The instrument of music requires time,the instrument of painting requires a plane." Berlinberg pointed out that "flatness" is a unique and exclusive characteristic of painting art,which cannot be shared with other art forms."Complanation" as in the process of creation,the artist is no longer in pursuit of realistic picture as a standard for judging art,but with the method of abstract,generalization to change the shape of the objective image and subjective change true color,creating new methods of space,according to the artist’s aesthetic perception and personal understanding of painting different attempts."Complanation" means in the process of artists,from two-dimensional Angle to observe the reality of things,is compressed in the space,on the body,to generalize the subjective use of color,make the basic elements of painting has relative independence,thus make the painting more integrity and personal style,on this basis to allow relative to the existence of the illusion of space.Taking "planarization" as the starting point,this paper analyzes his planarization language from three periods: Berkeley period,ocean area figurative period and Ocean Park period.Period of Berkeley to perspective and space two angles,sea area representational period to composition and space two angles and Ocean Park to geometry,brushwork and color three angles to analyze di)how language is complanation formation and evolution,and the uniqueness of di)of complanation,finally summarizes the significance of complanation.
