Transformation In The Midst Of Turbulent Industrial Change

Zheng Xiaoqiu(1910-1989)is the eldest son of Mr.Zheng Zhengqiu,one of the founders of Chinese film industry.He became famous as the "first child star" of the "Star" company in the early 1920s,and then experienced the transformation from actor to director.His 60-year film career has run through an important stage in Chinese film history.LV Yukun once commented that "Zheng Xiaoqiu is a talented and enterprising director".However,in the usual writing of film history,Zheng Xiaoqiu is often considered to have grown up under the protection of his parents such as Zheng Zhengqiu and Zhang Shichuan.His limited achievements are also due to the excellent scripts by screenwriters such as Ouyang Yuqian,Hong Shen and Cheng Xiaoqing.His artistic creation ability and contribution to the standardized production of early Chinese films are ignored.As China’s earliest film star and the second generation of film directors,Zheng Xiaoqiu has personally experienced the process of Chinese filmmaker moving towards professionalism and specialization.By 1949,Zheng Xiaoqiu had made 104 films,which were completed in many institutions such as "Star" film company(1922-1937),"Guohua" and "Jinxing"(1939-1941),"Zhonglian" and "Huaying"(1942-1945),"Datong"(1946-1949).In the turbulent development environment of early Chinese film industry,Zheng Xiaoqiu’s experience has great value for the study of the survival state and survival strategy of early Chinese filmmakers.This paper makes a systematic study of Zheng Xiaoqiu’s film activities and works,and discusses Zheng Xiaoqiu’s film activities and creative value from multiple angles,from the construction and transformation of screen image,the creation of commercial films and the evolution of his film view.The first chapter of this paper linearly combs the construction and transformation of Zheng Xiaoqiu’s screen image.This paper analyzes the reasons for Zheng Xiaoqiu’s transformation from "child star" to "popular young actor",the difficulties faced in the development from family actor to professional actor,and analyzes the impact of early media public opinion on the development of stars with the construction of his screen image.The second chapter starts with the film creation,comprehensively analyzes and arranges Zheng Xiaoqiu’s commercial film creation,takes the middle-class " citizen" perspective and the female perspective as the symbol of the "poor" as the starting point,focuses on the summary of the cultural meaning and conceptual innovation of love films and ethical films in his works,and excavates the uniqueness of his commercial film creation after his transformation into a professional director.The third chapter starts with the film concept,combs the formation of Zheng Xiaoqiu’s Film Ontology through the comparison between Zheng Xiaoqiu and his parents’ filmmakers,summarizes Zheng Xiaoqiu’s exploration of the standardization of China’s film industry process in production,and finally summarizes his film concept under the influence of his parents.The conclusion summarizes and evaluates Zheng Xiaoqiu’s film contribution.
