"The Tujia Stone Carving Craftsmanship of Tawo Town in Xiangxi" is a provincial intangible cultural heritage in Hunan.matured and ushered in great development in the last century.At present,Tawo masons are widely active in western Hunan and surrounding areas,becoming the most distinctive and dynamic handicraft industry in the local area.The main content of the paper is to organize and study the results of field investigations on stone carving craftsmanship in Tawo Town and surrounding areas in Xiangxi since 2020.As a fresh carrier of "intangible cultural heritage",the stone carvings of pagodas and stone carvings are inherited here,including mining techniques such as burning method and wedge cracking method;production techniques represented by modular system;carving techniques represented by relief,round carving and line carving.The shape and subject matter of the stone carvings on the pagoda have changed following the social and historical changes in western Hunan.At the same time,the archway-style tombstone carved by the stone mason in the tower is the most representative work in the stone carving craft of the tower,creating a special funeral culture that continues to this day in western Hunan and the surrounding areas.Through the actual investigation,the author believes that:First,the key to the inheritance of the stone carving craftsmanship is to see its position and role in the local folk customs in western Hunan.Secondly,the follow-up development focuses on the cultivation and establishment of a systematic team of high-quality professional craftsmen.Finally,based on the inspection experience,combined with domestic and foreign experience,some insights are put forward,hoping to be helpful.
