Research On Wen Zhaotong's Artistic Activities And Art Histor

As a famous Chinese art educator and painting historian in the twentieth century,Wen Zhaotong,in his half-century-long practice of art education,has always taken the research of Chinese art education as his mission,and has made painstaking exploration and creation on the path of a pioneer.Through combing through Wen Zhaotong’s artistic activities during his time at the Shanghai Art Institute,the East China Art Institute,and the South China Art Institute,and digging deeper into his theoretical writings,this paper aims to analyze Wen Zhaotong’s contributions to art education,art history,and the study of ancient painting theory.In art education,Wen Zhaotong attached importance to the practice of art pedagogy,focused on specific problems in teaching,emphasized the combination of theory and practice,and made many studies and contributions to the development of art education in primary and secondary schools in the Republic of China.For the study of art history,Wen Zhaotong was the first to propose the concept of the "history of painting" and scientifically delineate its stages.He applied the historical experience of his predecessors to the study of the history of painting and believed that researchers must possess the four basic qualities of historical talent,historical knowledge,historical scholarship,and historical ethics.In the area of ancient painting theory,Wen Zhaotong mainly adopts annotations and commentaries to conduct thematic studies,analyze and evaluate ancient Chinese art dialectically,and push forward new ideas,while using a unique way to elaborate and classify ancient painting theory,so as to achieve the purpose of "the academic is clear when the categories are divided".Throughout his life,Wen Zhaotong has cultivated his brush without ceasing.His rigorous study and extensive knowledge have made his writings fruitful,and his efforts to establish a modern Chinese art education and historical research system have not only become a true reflection of his life,but also a microcosm of the serious research,rigorous study,and selfless dedication of the older generation of art historians.Through the above discussion,the article seeks to comprehensively organize Wen Zhaotong’s artistic activities and the ideas,concepts,and methods of art historical research in different periods,better analyze his important efforts to build an art discipline system with Chinese characteristics,and thus clarify his important historical status.
