As a unique folk painting art,the long evolution of Chinese history has formed a solid spiritual and cultural system for New Year pictures. The characteristics of being close to the people independent of the pursuit of traditional elite art value also make it extract the dual cultural value of "record aesthetics".Using the methods of historical comparison and literature analysis, based on the theoretical framework of "female consciousness;social context-schema information-female image",this paper discusses the changes of the aesthetic consciousness and characteristics of female images in New Year pictures. In the creation of New Year pictures in various historical periods, female image is an integral element of the overall content of New Year pictures that can not be ignored. From the Qing Dynasty to the new Chinese New Year Painting movement, women’s images from the initial beauty of illness and weakness,to the beauty of health in the period of the Republic of China, and then to the beauty of personality in the new year painting, not only reflect the unprecedented liberation of women’s consciousness and the further improvement of social recognition of women’s status, but also reflect the continuous development and mapping of modern women’s consciousness on the new year painting. The female image of New Year pictures has always changed with the awakening of women’s social consciousness and the changes of values. The female consciousness has changed from the conservative closure in the Qing Dynasty to the initial awakening in the late Qing Dynasty, the awakening of consciousness in the early Republic of China and then to the complete liberation in the new China period. The changes of female image in content and form under the influence of female consciousness have played an important role in the author’s creation.
