| This report is based on the English-Chinese translation practice of the source text named Gendered and Sexualized Bullying and Cyberbullying: Spotlighting Girls and Making Boys Invisible,an academic paper written by Faye Mishna and et al.This paper is published in Youth & Society.It mainly argues what gendered and sexualized bullying and cyberbullying are,the specific behavior that happens in children and youth,the causes to structure bullying,and the intersections between gender,bullying,and cyberbullying among children and youth.The translator chooses Vermeer’s Skopos Theory to guide the translation practice.Skopos Theory emphasizes the decisive role of “purpose” in the process of translation,and advocates that translation methods are determined by translation purpose.The translator’s purpose of translating this academic paper is to accurately and objectively convey academic information to the target language readers,to achieve the purpose of academic exchanges.Therefore,Skopos Theory plays a guiding role in the translation of academic papers.This translation report mainly analyses the problems encountered in the translation practice with examples from lexical,syntactic,and textual levels,and with the help of Skopos Theory,the translator adopts different translation methods,such as literal translation,liberal translation,amplification,conversion,division and adjustment of the word order,to achieve the purpose of the translation practice.It is hoped that this report will help people to have a new understanding of bullying,and also can give some reference in translating academic papers in the future. |
