| The rapid development of the information age has made discontinuous texts become an important information carrier,so the ability to obtain information from discontinuous texts is one of the indispensable abilities to adapt to modern society.As a language subject with both instrumental and humanistic nature,reading teaching is a very important part of English teaching.Discontinuous texts can not only be used as reading materials,but also an important auxiliary means of reading teaching,which is of great significance and effect to English reading teaching.In the curriculum standard of Junior high School English,students are not only required to understand and explain the information provided by pictures and charts,but also required to use charts and tables to express.Therefore,the application of discontinuous texts in English reading teaching is not only the needs of the times,but also the requirement of reality.Based on this,the main purpose of this study is to understand the real situation of the application status of discontinuous texts in English reading teaching in junior high schools,and to find out the problems and the reasons behind them.This research investigates the current situation of the application of discontinuous texts in English reading teaching in junior high schools,aiming to solve the following three questions:(1)What are the specific problems in the application of discontinuous texts in English reading teaching in junior high schools?(2)What are the reasons for the problems in the application of discontinuous texts in English reading teaching in junior high schools?(3)How to optimize the application of discontinuous texts in junior high school English reading teaching?In order to explore the above-mentioned problems,this study selected classroom observation method and interview method to investigate the application of discontinuous texts in English reading teaching in junior high schools,and collected and analyzed relevant data.This study found the following problems that existed in the application of discontinuous texts in English reading teaching in junior high schools:(1)The number of discontinuous texts used by junior middle school English teachers in reading teaching varies greatly(2)Teachers use discontinuous texts to design teaching activities with inappropriate levels of difficulty(3)The implementation of discontinuous text teaching activities deviates from the teaching objectives(4)Questions for discontinuous texts have limitations.In order to better apply discontinuous texts into junior high school English reading teaching,this study proposed the following optimization strategies:(1)Enhance teachers’ understanding of the teaching value of discontinuous texts(2)Improve teachers’ awareness of developing and utilizing discontinuous text teaching resources(3)Optimize the design of non-continuous text teaching activities(4)Enrich the interactive form of discontinuous text teaching activities.(5)Pay attention to the evaluation and reflection on the use of discontinuous texts. |
