After 10 years of cultural desert, the Peking Opera industry ushered in an artistic "set things right" in the 1980 s,and Peking Opera creation flourished, among which historical Peking Opera repertoires achieved dazzling results. In terms of the source of the subject matter, these plays can be divided into three categories: those based on real and objective history, those created and adapted from myths or literary interpretations, and those created entirely by writers. The first category is the most important, covering more than half of the plays in the 1980 s.In terms of aesthetic style, seeking the spirit and subject consciousness of writers has become a common creative style in the 1980 s,and is no longer troubled by "historicism",boldly cutting and fictitious historical materials, focusing on excavating profound human nature. In terms of artistic creation techniques, the visual display of characters’ psychology and hallucinations was developed, and artistic means such as lighting and accompaniment were widely used, which enriched the expression methods of Peking Opera.Of course, there were also problems in the creation and rehearsal of historical Peking Opera repertoires during the period, such as the lack of singing arias, and the departure from the "grassroots" nature of opera.
