A Study Of Causative Constructions In Thai

Causative category is the most basic cognitive category of human beings.Every language has the means to express causative category.Thai belongs to the Zhuang Dai branch of the Zhuang Dong ethnic group of the Sino Tibetan language family.It mainly uses word order and function words to express grammatical meaning.The resulting structure is mainly analytical causes with causative markers,both lexical causes and a small amount of morphological causes.This paper mainly starts with synchronic and diachronic aspects,which not only makes an in-depth analysis of the structural form,semantic mechanism and the relationship between causation,passivity and benefit of Thai causative structure;From the perspective of typology,this paper compares the Thai causative structure with the kinship language,with the surrounding mainland Southeast Asian language and ov language Jingpo language,so as to promote us to further understand the characteristics of Thai causative structure and the regional characteristics of mainland Southeast Asian language causative structure.This paper is mainly divided into the following parts: the introduction mainly introduces the background of the topic,research status at home and abroad,research purpose and significance,research methods and data sources.The first chapter mainly combs and summarizes the type characteristics of causative structure in Thai.It is found that in Thai,in addition to the causative structure with obvious markers,the syntactic structure of causative meaning is contained in continuous verb structure and concurrent language structure,there are also some lexical causative and morphological causative in Thai.The morphological causative vocabulary found at present is formed due to the influence of Cambodian language.The second chapter discusses the semantic characteristics of typical causative markers in Thai based on the nine semantic parameters proposed by Dixon to test the causative structure.It is considered that the accommodation of the marker tham~33hai~51 is the strongest in the three aspects of the life degree,intention and predicate verb of the causative agent;In addition,it also points out that the lexical causative expression in Thai directly causes meaning,while the analytical causative expression with causative markers indirectly causes meaning.The third chapter discusses the relationship between causation and passivity,causation and benefit in Thai,and holds that the main reason why Thai hai~51does not represent passivity is that hai~51has too strong causative meaning,and the subject is limited by the degree of life.The fourth chapter compares the causative structure of Thai with the domestic kinship language and the surrounding mainland and Southeast Asian languages,and finds that the grammaticalization process of Thai causative marker hai~51 is relatively slow compared with the domestic kinship language;The analysis of Southeast Asian languages in the surrounding mainland leads to a high degree of similarity between the structure and Thai,which is the result of grammatical replication.Finally,the conclusion reviews the main contents of this paper.Through this study,it is found that the causative structure of Thai presents the following characteristics: First,the forms of causative structure in Thai are relatively rich,especially the analytical causative structure is characterized by diversity;Second,the use frequency of mark tham~33hai~51 and hai~51 is high,while the use of mark tham~33is relatively fixed,so the use frequency is relatively low;Third,the grammaticalization of causative marker hai~51 in Thai is relatively slow,from giving verb grammaticalization to causative marker,which is related to the fact that Thai belongs to analytical language,but Thai is not as analytical as Chinese;Fourth,under the influence of grammatical replication,the development of Thai causative structure affects the formation of causative structure in surrounding languages.Therefore,Thai has become the core language of mainland and Southeast Asian languages.The research results of this paper can not only help us understand and master the type characteristics of Thai causative structure,but also observe the commonness and individuality of Thai causative structure from the perspective of language typology,which makes up for the deficiency of single language research to a certain extent.At the same time,it also provides Thai cases for studying the regional characteristics of language causative structure in Southeast Asia on the mainland.
