Critics often need to pay attention to the gap between "art production" and "art reception" in the process of art criticism practice. The critical method of tracing the artist’s intention and interpreting the meaning of the artwork has been the main method of criticism since the emergence of art,and its importance is self-evident.However,since the birth of hypertextual art as an art form in the20 th century, the phenomenon of the disappearance of the artist’s intention is a phenomenon that needs the attention of our critics. With the openness of the text, hypertextual art has greatly aroused the creative intentions of the audience, and the intentions of the audience began to intervene in the creation. At the same time, because of the intervention of different audiences’ intentions, the final form of hypertext art works also presents a kind of uncertainty and complexity,in which a single creative intention is dissolved and an uncertain text is constantly generated. The reason for this is that computer technology has provided a human-computer interface for hypertext art, bringing about the interactive characteristics of hypertext art,and hypertext’s own hyperlinked form has also brought about the episodic characteristics of hypertext art,and this interactivity and episodic nature has created extremely convenient conditions for the collage elements of modernism. The interactivity of hypertext art causes the concealment of the artist’s intention, the episodic nature brings about the randomness of hypertext art’s meaning generation, and the collage nature triggers the multiplicity of textual meanings. In this way, hypertext art is no longer suitable for artist-centered criticism, but should be tilted toward the audience.Because the intention of the audience is equally important in hypertext art,and many hypertext artists are no longer willing to reveal their creative intention, they are "against interpretation".Moreover,in the age of self-media,the threshold of becoming an artist has been greatly lowered, and the audience can conduct criticism from their own experience. At the same time, the audience for art criticism has also expanded greatly, from being largely limited to communication within "art circles" to one in which all members of the general public can read and interact with critical articles. Therefore, after discussing that the focus of hypertext art criticism should be shifted to the audience,it becomes possible to establish a hypertext-based criticism method by combining the interactive nature of hypertext, the massive storage of information, and the hypertext-based retrieval method. The use of hypertext technology in the field of art criticism has also brought about greater interactivity in criticism, ease of storage of critical texts, and changes in the way criticism is retrieved. From the increasing depth of this technology for art criticism,it seems that "AI criticism" equipped with hypertext technology is also a possibility in the future.
