At the beginning of the 20 th century,Chinese society was in a period of social transition from old to new.At this time,Chinese society gradually stepped into the process of modernization under the influence of western culture.At the same time,under the influence of the current situation,China’s national consciousness is gradually awakening,and Chinese music is in such a social background,also began a drastic transformation.During this period,some music scholars who had both accepted traditional music culture and studied abroad played an important role in the transition from traditional music to modern music.They accept the influence of Chinese and western music culture,is under the influence of national consciousness and modern consciousness,at the same time,the enlightenment of national and ethnic national as own duty,in this case to think and explore the development direction of Chinese music in the early twentieth century,make their music criticism ideology presents the nationality and modernity collide with each other and the characteristics of the blend.Some of them attributed the decline of the country to the backwardness of Traditional Chinese music and advocated abandoning tradition completely and establishing universal music in the world.Similarly,some scholars deeply influenced by traditional Confucian ritual and music culture still stick to traditional Chinese music culture,advocate the revival of ancient music,and resist the exclusion of Western music.But at the same time,there are some rational music scholars studying abroad,in the process of accepting western music,based on the traditional music culture,advocate the music development road of Chinese and Western integration.In the transition of The Times,on the one hand,the music criticism thoughts of these music scholars have modernized and innovated traditional Chinese music;On the other hand,he also left many regrets on the inheritance and development of traditional music,which challenged the later music circle to construct the national discourse system of music.At the same time,it is under the influence of the critical thoughts of these music scholars who had studied abroad that the coordination and treatment of "national discourse construction" and "western style reference" in music has become a topic of debate for a hundred years.
