Colour painting was the colourful decoration on the wooden elements of ancient Chinese buildings, and was therefore known as wooden clothing and embroidery, and was mostly used for the emperor’s palace buildings. As one of the largest and best-preserved ancient wooden buildings in the world, the Forbidden City has many magnificent architectural paintings, which have become one of the typical symbols of the Forbidden City. Most of the existing official-style Soviet-style colour paintings in the Forbidden City are cultural relics from the Ming and Qing dynasties, with diverse forms of expression, rich meanings and far-reaching cultural connotations, and are of great research value. As an ancient art form that combines the beauty of literature and the artistry of painting, comic strips present a wide range of subjects and twists and turns in a continuous picture and rich presentation, and are a popular and easily understood cultural vehicle.Colour painting and comic strips are both extremely valuable cultural art forms in China, and both are examples of excellent traditional Chinese culture, worthy of our continued study, research and heritage. This paper takes the art of Su-style colour painting in Liang Fang of the Forbidden City as an example, and by analysing and comparing the similarities and differences between colour painting and comic books in terms of narrative,it incorporates the narrative style of colour painting into the creation of new comic books to create a new era of comic books with the narrative connotation of Su-style colour painting, bringing a distinctive artistic charm to comic book works.
