Earlier Wittgenstein tried to demarcate the language and then the thought through the standard of clear meaning. He regarded the "logic of language" as the basis of meaning, and anything that did not conform to the syntax of first-order predicate logic was "unspeakable".It is meaningless, which leads to narrow the scope of "sayable",and what is meaningful in real life becomes meaningless, and even leads to the implied paradox of "Treatise on Logic and Philosophy".Later Wittgenstein gave up the idea of "language logic" as the basis of meaning, looked for the standard of meaning from the "form of life",and understood the meaning of language from the specific "language game".Based on this line of thinking, later Wittgenstein put forward a famous thesis on the issue of meaning, that is,"meaning is use".He approached the theory of meaning from a new perspective, clarified the concept of meaning, and emphasized the observation of the actual use of language. As the core issue of the later Wittgenstein’s research, the theory of meaning is closely related to his theories of "Private Language Argument","Life Form" and "Rule Following".From these theories, many scholars have analyzed Wittgenstein’s assertion that language has "social" characteristics. However, the academic circles have not made a convincing argument for this, and the "sociality" that the scholars pay attention to is not the same. This thesis studies the question of "whether Wittgenstein endowed language with sociality",tries to analyze his views on language from Wittgenstein’s arguments, sorts out the concept of "sociality" advocated by him,To answer the question of whether Wittgenstein demonstrated that language has the characteristics of "sociality",through this study,we can clarify the role of the concept of "sociality" in Wittgenstein’s thinking about meaning,so as to further deepen the understanding of the later Wittgenstein.understanding of the theoretical perspective of meaning. In Chapter one,the analysis scholars discuss the "sociality" of Wittgenstein’s argumentation language from which perspectives, what way of thinking they use to explain the process of Wittgenstein’s argumentation of the sociality of language, and sort out their views on Wittgenstein’s argument.understanding of the concept of "sociality".At the same time, define the basic concept of "private language",with the aim of studying the relationship between "privacy" and "sociality",and discuss Wittgenstein’s "private language" argument for the statement that "sociality" is a feature of language level of support. The second chapter, around the later Wittgenstein’s theory of meaning, analyzes the value of the concept of practice to Wittgenstein’s endowment of language with "social" characteristics.Firstly, the section one uses Wittgenstein’s theory of "meaning lies in use" to clarify that people grasp the concept of practice in the search for language meaning; The "language game" of the language can show the "practical" characteristics of language. In this process, this thesis sorts out the concept of "language game".Finally, the various characteristics of language are presented in "forms of life",and the development of "language games" depends on habits or customs.Through Wittgenstein’s elaboration of the concept of "form of life",we interpret the concept of "form of life" in different ways, and come to the conclusion that "form of life" is the basis of "social" language. The third chapter expounds Wittgenstein’s exact thoughts on rules and rule-following,and I demonstrate "why Wittgenstein thinks that rule-following is a practice".Finally,it compares the view of "Wittgenstein endowed language with’social’ features" and the communitarian view of language, analyzes the connection and difference between the two language views, and draws a conclusion that Wittgenstein’s relation to language view does not belong to the communitarian view of language. The innovation of this paper is mainly reflected in: summarizing and refining the characteristics of "public intelligibility","practicality" and "normativeness" of "social" language in academic circles, and concluding that Wittgenstein’s language view has "sociality ",It can also enrich people’s understanding of the concept of "sociality".
