| As a director who grew up in China’s mainland and China’s Hong Kong and mainly works in American Hollywood,John Woo often poses as a Chinese-language film director.This is because he has not only been influenced by Chinese traditional culture,but also experienced the baptism of Western culture.His life experience and work experience are bound to make him have a unique understanding and reflection on the status and relationship between Eastern and Western cultures and between things.Therefore,the process of using films to construct the "Oriental World" has always been the process of John Woo expressing his views on traditional Chinese culture,East-West relations,and the integration and conflict of East-West cultures.With the help of the image practice of constructing the "Oriental World",Woo Woo not only shows the new way of existence and form of the Oriental culture and the Orient itself in the perspective of modernization,but also explores the integration,exchange and possibility of East-West cultures,and creates a film path that not only maintains the national culture but also adapts to the aesthetic interests of the world audience.This thesis is divided into six parts:The first chapter "Introduction".Elaborates the research background,the research significance,the domestic and foreign research present situation,the research method,the research innovation spot and so on.Chapter Two "Rethinking ’East/West: Woo’s Films and’ Oriental World ’".This paper expounds the connotation of "Oriental World" and "Oriental World" in John Woo’s films.This paper clarifies the significance of the "Oriental World" from the geographical and cultural aspects,combs out director John Woo’s filming experience at home and abroad,and observes the overall appearance of the "Oriental World" constructed by his films from the historical and realistic relations between the East and the West.The third chapter "Oriental Connotation: Woo Yusen movie ’Oriental World’ value writing".Starting with the value connotation of "Oriental style",this thesis sums up the form of oriental world constructed by John Woo in three dimensions: clan,river and lake and country.Film through "feeling" ties the family relations,respect humble orderly family structure,showing the ethics-based value of the "Eastern" clan landscape,through the "harmony" of social relations,"righteousness" heritage,showing the "Eastern" idealized social order of the "moderate and chivalrous" landscape,the national imagination level,"Oriental World" semantic range has been further expanded,showing inclusiveness,pluralism,open development and other cultural characteristics.The fourth chapter "Oriental" narrates: Woo Yusen movie ’Oriental world’ presentation way ".From the perspective of image language,narrative theme and cultural symbols,this thesis examines the external representation and linguistic form of the "Oriental World" constructed by John Woo’s films.At the level of image language,the film presents"Oriental" violent image style and narrative theme level through many techniques such as action design,lens expression,scene construction and sound design.At the level of cultural symbol,the "Hero Motif" in the film presents multiple aspects such as "growth","mission","revenge" and"rebellion".At the same time,the director tries to integrate the traditional Chinese culture into the narrative of modern films,and combines the elements of traditional Chinese opera,traditional martial arts and classical painting with the film technique,which also highlights Wu Yusen’s efforts in constructing the "Oriental World".Chapter 5 "Between East and West: The Enlightenment and Reflection of John Woo’s Film" Oriental World ".In the process of constructing the "Oriental World",John Woo’s films are divided into two parts: historical enlightenment and historical reflection.In terms of historical enlightenment,John Woo’s films put forward creative ideas and thinking paths for reconstructing the connotation of "Oriental" world and reconstructing the relationship between the East and the West in terms of the use of national elements,the excavation of local themes and the search for common points of value between the East and the West. |
