Analysis Of Disagreement Discourse In Sina Weibo Interaction From The Perspective Of Relevance-adaptation Theory

Disagreement discourse arises from the different opinions or views of both sides of communication towards the same event or character.The study on disagreement discourse has become a research hotspot in the linguistic field in recent years,and especially with the rapid development of computer-mediated communication,the study on disagreement discourse on cyber communication platforms has also increasingly attracted attention.This thesis takes 120 interactions selected from 15 hot topics on Sina Weibo from January 2021 to September 2021 as the data.It adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods to analyze the linguistic features of disagreement discourse generated in the process of Weibo interactions from the perspective of relevance-adaptation theory.The thesis analyzes the causes of disagreement discourse and attempts to propose some constructive speech strategies to alleviate the negative impact of disagreement discourse,trying to provide references for better expressing ourselves and dealing with disagreement discourse in cyber communication.It is found that disagreement discourse in Weibo interaction is quite common,and shares unique and diverse linguistic features,which are mainly reflected in lexical,syntactic,and textual levels.The lexical features are manifested in the frequent use of negative words,abusive words,and derogatory adjectives,the syntactic features are expressed as the frequent use of rhetorical questions,interrogative sentences,imperative sentences,and accusatory sentences,and the textual features are characterized in the nonstandard use of punctuation and the complementary use of emojis.There are two major causes for disagreement discourse.On the one hand,it is caused by the lack of relevance in communicative intention between communicative parties.In the interaction process,the frequent use of negative words and rhetorical questions leads to the lack of relevance in speech act;the frequent use of negative words and interrogative sentences leads to the lack of relevance in conversational demand;the frequent use of accusatory sentences and imperative sentences leads to the lack of relevance in the conversational topic.On the other hand,it is caused by the lack of adaptation to contextual correlates between communicative parties.In the interaction process,communicators use negative words and rhetorical questions that lead to the failure of adapting to the physical world,use abusive words and interrogative sentences that lead to the failure of adapting to the mental world,and use derogatory adjectives and rhetorical questions that lead to the failure of adapting to the social world.In Weibo interaction,appropriate speech strategies used by both communicative parties can effectively alleviate the negative communicative effects of disagreement discourse,such as using hedges,using token agreement and using humor to establish the relevance of communication between the two parties,and making an apology,showing understanding for the other party and using address forms to adapt to both parties’ contextual factors.This study helps people effectively avoid and mitigate the negative impact of disagreement discourse in cyber communication,and provides suggestions for harmonious and successful cyber interaction.
