Minako Oba is a famous contemporary Japanese female writer, who has won the Akutagawa Award,Tanizaki Junichiro Award and other important awards in the Japanese literary circles. The author has created a series of works in America based on her early experience in America, which is of great significance for us to understand the author’s literary creation. This paper selects 《Three Crabs》 and 《Green Leaves Trilogy》created by Minako Oba during her early travels in America as the research objects.Based on The Other Theory in feminist criticism and postcolonial criticism, deeply analyzes Minako Oba’s early American tour works. The plight of The Other in the works of America is analyzed by Text Analytics to explore the plight of the other faced by Japanese women living in the United States and how to deal with it.The heroines Yuri and Saki are unable to escape the plight of the other brought about by gender differences, both in their families and in society. When they realized their other’s plight, they all chose to escape first. When Yuri escaped from her family, she considered all the possibilities to change her status, but she denied them one by one;Saki was tossed between different men in order to get rid of her own plight of otherness, and it was still difficult to get rid of the fate of being other. In the end,Yuri’s return to the family and Saki’s compromise to reality and returning to her husband declared the failure of their struggle. The plight of The Other in Oba’s writings not only happened to Yuri and Saki, who were women, but also, under the cultural background of “white supremacy” in America, faced with the dominant white culture, men as ethnic minorities were also deeply caught in the plight of the cultural other.Gaku, who is also a Japanese in the United States, has no space for advancement in the workplace because of his Japanese status,so he has to live cautiously;black Ed can’t compete with white classmates to stay in school and can only vent his emotions through cat abuse, showing that whether women or men must face the plight of The Other in reality.Minako Oba’s early works in the United States describe the plight of otherness faced by American minorities and their attempts to transcend the plight of reality by means of escape and resistance, thus revealing the objectivity, complexity and existence of the plight of The Other.long-term.This status quo can trigger readers’ vigilance and reflection on the living conditions of contemporary people, which fully reflects the reality and criticality of Oba Minako’s literature.
