A Study On The Subtitle Translation In The Documentary Of Seasons Of China From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

Documentary is a critical window for international publicity of culture.Therefore,the subtitle translation of the documentary plays an essential role in international culture publicity.It has become an important carrier of Chinese culture and the main channel for shaping a good international image.However,compared to other translation types,there is relatively less research on subtitle translation of Chinese documentaries and the research perspective is rather single,lacking systematic research from a multi-dimensional perspective.Seasons of China is a large-scale cultural publicity documentary issued by Xinhua News Agency with the theme of solar terms.The language,culture,communication,and natural ecological elements embodied in its subtitles require the translators to make adaptation and selection in multi-dimensional transformations.In view of this,this thesis studies the English subtitle translation in the documentary Seasons of China on the theoretical basis of Eco-translatology.First,this thesis analyzes the translational eco-environment of the subtitle translation in the documentary Seasons of China.In the subjective translational ecoenvironment,translation initiators,translators,and other subjects should cooperate with each other to guarantee translation quality.In the objective translational ecoenvironment,the time and space constraints and the subtitle features of the documentary have brought challenges to translation.Secondly,in view of the natural ecological beauty elements contained in the subtitle of the documentary,this thesis attempts to add the aesthetic dimension on the basis of the three-dimensional transformation of Eco-translatology and then analyze the adaptation and selection made by the translators in the process of translation from the four dimensions of language,culture,communication and aesthetics.In the linguistic dimension,the methods of amplification and conversion are used to ensure the reproduction of sentence logical relationship and style.In the cultural dimension,a variety of translation compensation strategies are adopted to supplement the cultural vacancy in the translation.In the communicative dimension,substitution and generalization translation methods are used to realize the communicative function.In the aesthetic dimension,literal translation,free translation and rhyme translation are adopted to retain the rich context of the source language so that the natural ecological and rhyme beauty in the source language can be successfully transplanted into the target language.With the help of Eco-translatology,this thesis analyzes the English subtitle translation of the documentary Seasons of China,which hopes to provide a reference for the English subtitle translation of other cultural documentaries with ecological elements.At the same time,it also hopes to spread China’s excellent solar term culture and help Chinese culture go global.
