| In recent years, facing the Belt and Road Initiative,China and several countries in the Middle East have gradually formed open and close exchanges, and the need to deepen the understanding of the history of the Arab world and Islamic culture has become more and more urgent. This translation material is taken from the book Cold War in the Islamic World:Saudi Arabia,Iran and the Struggle for Supremacy,in order to help readers understand relevant culture and history. This report is guided by Reiss’s text typology.According to the theory, the translation text is mainly informative, and the translation mainly focuses on the faithful conveyance of information and accurate language expression. From the perspective of text typology,it aims to realize the function of the translated text and achieve the communicative purpose of the translation, and adopts translation methods flexibly. The case study explores translation strategies, methods and techniques from three levels:lexical, syntactic and textual. The techniques of handling vocabulary is richer, mainly involving the translation of proper words, word sense selection, word class conversion, word addition, etc.;for syntactic translation,it is mainly divided into the following levels:translation of attributive clauses, passive sentences, translation of long sentences, etc. At the level of the discourse, the cohesion and coherence are discussed to explore how to achieve the interconnection between sentences and the coherence of meaning within the text.It is found by practice that in the English-Chinese translation of informative historical texts, the precise translation of vocabulary is uniquely important, especially in the case of proper nouns, where "convention" and "name from master" are important strategies for translation.By writing a report on the whole translation process, the author has understood the key points of translation of such texts, clearly recognized the shortcomings, and actively considered how to better achieve both the style and semantic equivalence between the translated and the original text according to the function of the text and the cultural context, with a view to making exchanges and mutual learning on English-Chinese translating more accessible. |
