A Report On The Translation Of Privacy By Design For The Internet Of Things:Building Accountability And Security(Chapter 5)

As ecosystem of the Internet of Things(IoT)becomes ever more pervasive,the wave of machine learning and artificial intelligence is surging,and people’s demand for human-computer interaction is unprecedentedly high.However,the privacy leakage and the challenges of building accountability and security of the IoT are increasingly prominent.The research of privacy protection design of Internet of Things is beneficial to the development of organizational structure and technical methods of the IoT.This report is based on the fifth chapter of Privacy by Design for the Internet of Things:Building accountability and security published by The Institution of Engineering and Technology in 2021.This kind of text,EST(English for Science and Technology),is rigorous in form,structure and style,characterized by logical reasoning,plain wording and rigorous syntax.The report focuses on three issues that translators should pay attention to(ⅰ)how to ensure the quality of translation through pretranslation preparation,analysis and resolution of translation difficulties and posttranslation correction;(ⅱ)how to use Skopostheorie to guide the translation of EST to be consistent and faithful,so as to serve the target readers and(ⅲ)how to enhance the translator’s logical awareness and global awareness in the translation of EST texts.In the report,the author determines the translation goals according to the structural and stylistic features of EST,and on this basis,puts forward the basic translation goals.Under the guidance of the "fidelity rule" of Skopostheorie,the author pays attention to the translation of new scientific and technological terms,the extension of word meaning and the conversion of part of speech,so as to achieve the fidelity of the original.Directed by the "coherence rule" of Skopostheorie,the author pays attention to the division and reorganization of sentence groups and the analysis of the implied logical relationship in the texts to achieve intra-lingual coherence,thus ensuring coherent translation.Guided by the "Skopos rule" of Skopostheorie,the author aims to convey accurate and objective information to readers,and the sense of logical and global thinking runs through the author’s translation practice.The report shows that translators need to have a comprehensive understanding of EST translation,pay attention to all aspects of translation,and comprehensively weigh the purpose and function of translation,the transmission of original information,and the reading experience of target readers.This report hopes that the translation strategies and methods of this kind of text can provide some reference for translators of English for science and technology.
