After the founding of New China, the Communist Party of China was transformed from a revolutionary party to a ruling party, and the situation and tasks faced by the Party have produced tremendous changes, placing higher demands on the Party’s ability to govern. However, there were many problems of impure composition, poor practices and unsound institutions in Party organizations at all levels, which seriously affected the image and credibility of the Party and the new government in the eyes of the masses. In order to rectify the impurity of the Party’s organization and improve its fighting and executive power, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC)launched a large-scale Party consolidation movement throughout the country in 1951.In accordance with the instructions of the CPC Central Committee and the East China Bureau, the Shandong Branch led the Party consolidation movement in Shandong Province in an organized and planned manner, and achieved good results. This thesis is devoted to the study of the Party consolidation movement in Shandong Province, and provides a detailed account of the history of the movement, including its background, initiation, implementation and conclusion, and on this basis, summarizes its effectiveness, shortcomings and historical experience. The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly explains the significance of the thesis, the current situation of the research, the innovation and difficulties of the research, the research ideas and the research methods. The second chapter describes the background of the Party consolidation movement in Shandong Province. It first outlines the 1950 rectification Movement as a prelude to the Party consolidation movement, then describes the consideration and deployment of the Party consolidation movement by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and then analyses the ideological and organizational situation in Shandong Province before the Party consolidation movement was launched. The third chapter analyses the Party consolidation movement in the rural areas of Shandong Province. It first introduces the Party consolidation pilot projects in Songji Township and Fengli Township, then discusses the combination of the Party consolidation campaign with the Cooperative movement for mutual assistance in agriculture, and then explains how the Party consolidation campaign always focused on the principle of agricultural production. The fourth chapter analyses the Party consolidation movement in urban areas of Shandong province. It begins with an overview of the establishment of the Party and the development of its membership, followed by a discussion of the combination of the Party consolidation movement and the "Three Antis" movement in urban areas. The fifth chapter describes the work of the Party consolidation in the "New Three Antis"movement. It first explains in detail how the Party consolidation movement was carried out in the "New Three Antis" movement, and then introduces several typical cases of Party consolidation in the "New Three Antis" movement. The sixth chapter examines a particular phase of the Party consolidation movement in Shandong province:making up the Party consolidation movement.Firstly,it introduces the causes of the making up the Party consolidation movement, namely the erroneous criticism of Xiang Ming, and then details the process of making up the Party consolidation movement. The seventh chapter analyses and evaluates the effectiveness, experience and shortcomings of the Party consolidation movement in Shandong province,as well as some characteristics that distinguish it from other regions. Finally, the concluding section examines the successes and failures of the use of large-scale campaigns to reorganize the Party in the light of the theory of "campaign-style governance".
