The English Curriculum Standards for General Senior High School(2020 edition)states that all English-learning activities should be based on discourse reading with a particular theme,indicating reading is very important to learn English well.Besides,relevant studies manifest that English reading strategy training can enhance students’ overall English reading competence.But the number of the researches on English reading strategy training of English underachievers in Senior 2 is extremely small.To explore the influence of English reading strategy training on English reading grades and strategy-applying awareness of English underachievers in Senior 2,the research trained the English underachievers in Senior 2 on English reading strategy in one term.The research objects in this study were selected from two natural classes of Grade 2 in a senior high school in the city of Helong by referring to the English grades of 3 previous months-examination tests.There were two rounds in the action research.The data of the research was collected through English reading tests,questionnaire surveys,interviews and learning logs,which is analyzed by SPSS.The aim of the research is to answer the following two questions:1.What effect does the English reading strategy training have on the English reading grades of English underachievers in Senior 2?2.What effect does the English reading strategy training have on the English reading strategy-applying awareness of English underachievers in Senior 2?The following conclusion was drawn: Firstly,the English reading strategy training can enhance the objects’ English reading grades.Additionally,the frequency of their using cognitive strategy obviously rose,having a better understanding of it,Third,the frequency of the objects using metacognitive strategy improved more than the other two strategies.Their ability to observe and control themselves when reading obviously developed.Fourth,quantitative data and qualitative information both show their awareness of using emotional and social strategy enhanced much.Their awareness of cooperation and self-control was boosted.In conclusion,English reading strategy training enhanced their reading grades and their awareness of using reading strategies.The action research provides the following suggestions for English teachers in English reading teaching of English underachievers and English reading strategy training: firstly,research the students’ reading problems carefully before teaching reading and do the research on students’ reading situation during every stage.And pay attention to the problems come across during the research and explore it more.Second,strengthen limited-time and silent reading training.Third,teach them strategy knowledge and give them enough exercises.Attach significance of the passage structure,cohesion and logic training.Fourth,strengthen the guidance on extra-curriculum reading,Finally,praise the students when they do it rightly but don’t correct them every time they make mistakes.
