Since arriving in Algeria,French colonialists have set out to establish a new French-led order in Algeria, and 132 years of colonial rule have had a huge impact on Algeria. The settler colonial policy occupied an important position in France’s colonial policy towards Algeria and was of great significance to the establishment and consolidation of French colonial rule in Algeria. At the beginning of the 19th century, when France’s domestic political situation was turbulent and the colonial competition with Britain was fierce, the invasion into Algeria had become the best opportunity to stabilize the domestic political situation and counterbalance Britain. The construction of the Narrative of French military invasion and legitimacy in Algeria was a prerequisite for the establishment of colonial rule and the basis for the realization of settled colonial policies.Settler colonial policy went through two phases: civil migration and official guidance. After the colonial authorities established this policy, the French Government lured settlers to Algeria through a variety of means.Upon the arrival of settlers in Algeria, the colonial authorities provided settlers with a variety of facilities based on the exploitation of indigenous populations in order to broaden the social base of colonial rule. With the long-term implementation of the settler colonial policy,Algeria’s social structure underwent a dramatic transformation,as did the relations of production. As the size of the settlers expanded, settlers and indigenous peoples formed different group identities, constituting a "binary opposition" structure. In the 20th century, multiple nationalist ideas gradually emerged among the long-oppressed indigenous groups, and Algeria finally achieved national independence in 1962.However,the practice of settler colonial policy made Algeria face many difficulties in the early years after independence, and at the same time had a non-negligible impact on French society.France’s settler colonial policy towards Algeria was different from the settler colonialism of other countries of the same era,but its essence was still the embodiment of the colonial hegemony of Western countries.
