The theory of Multiple Intelligences advocates comprehensive and diversified views on talents,positive and equal views on students,individualized teaching in accordance with their aptitude,and diversified views on evaluation to promote development,which coincide with China’s educational reform and provide sufficient basis for quality-oriented education.Teachers try their best to adjust learning content,classroom activities,learning tasks and evaluation methods according to the individual intelligences of senior high school students,so as to provide opportunities for every student to give full play to their talents,promote the optimal development of individual students,and lay a solid talent foundation for national development and rejuvenation.This research integrates Multiple Intelligences theory with the reform of English reading teaching,using questionnaire survey,classroom observation,interview to conduct an in-depth investigation of 204 students in the second grade of Tongliao No.5 Senior High School,and analyze the correlation between students’ multiple intelligences characteristics,the design of English reading activities and students’ existing English reading level,and then explore the following questions: 1.What problems do teachers have in current English reading teaching? 2.Under the guidance of Multiple Intelligences theory,how can teachers effectively design reading activities to improve students’ English reading level? This paper aims to explore the design of English reading teaching activities in accordance with students’ intelligences through research and to provide some ideas for cultivating students’ all-round development and better promoting English reading teaching.The research found that teachers have the following problems in English reading teaching: some reading teaching classes only focus on processing the text content of the textbook,ignoring in-depth interpretation and expansion,and lacking current affairs information;moreover,in the teaching of reading,teachers do not consider the characteristics and abilities of students comprehensively.When designing different reading teaching activities,the main consideration is the difference in students’ grades.Some teachers consider other factors such as students’ language ability,interest characteristics,intelligence strengths and weaknesses,etc.,but they cannot balance the weight relationship between various factors,so that the teaching effect cannot be achieved ideal state.Among the nine intelligences,linguistic intelligence and logical mathematical logic intelligence have a high correlation with students’ English achievement.Linguistic intelligence has the greatest impact on English achievement,followed by logical mathematical intelligence.Teaching activities that focus on exercising these two intelligences can significantly improve students’ performance,and under the guidance of other intelligences such as spatial intelligence and musical intelligence have an positive impact on students’ interest and atmosphere in English learning.Finally,the author provides relevant teaching strategies for teachers’ reading teaching and students’ autonomous learning according to the research results.From the perspective of teachers,in reading teaching,teachers should fully explore the cultural information carried by specific topics,and establish close connections between specific topics and life and current events;using the theory of Multiple Intelligences to evaluate students from multiple perspectives will train various intelligences.The teaching strategies are used in a flexible and purposeful combination to stimulate students’ interest in participating in activities and at the same time ensure students’ understanding and mastery of language knowledge.From the perspective of students,in the study of reading courses,they should learn to give full play to their intelligence advantages,explore their own learning strategies,and cut in from different angles to improve English reading efficiency and language ability.The research expects to provide some references for English reading teaching and learning.
