The Influence Of High Sense Of Purpose On Emotion Regulation Flexibility And Its Mechanis

Emotional regulation flexibility defined as flexible selection of emotion regulation strategies and emotion regulation goals by individuals according to the requirements of the situation,and finally to achieve suitable emotion regulation.There are still many controversies in the research conclusion,for example,whether the type of situation affects the function of emotion regulation flexibility;whether emotion regulation strategy flexibility and emotion regulation goal flexibility effect for negative emotions.Researches has revealed many individual differences that affect the flexibility of emotion regulation.Therefore,the current research introduces the concept of sense of purpose from the perspective of individual differences,Sense of purpose can be defined as meaningful goals and guiding the direction of life through goals.On the basis of previous studies,this study intends to further explore the relationship between sense of purpose and emotion regulation flexibility in college students.Currently study consists of two parts.The first part is the questionnaire research,which explores the relationship between sense of purpose,emotion regulation flexibility and negative emotion.The second part is an experimental study,from both explicit and implicit levels,which uses two different task paradigms,the free writing task and the sentence unscrambling task,to explore the relationship between the emotion polyregulation flexibility,and structured emotion regulation flexibility and sense of purpose.There are six studies designed in current research: first,study 1a is to localize Professor Sharma’s Adult Sense of Purpose Scale to form a Chinese version;study 1b is to demonstrated the mediating role of college’s emotion regulation flexibility between sense of purpose and negative emotions.In order to explore the differences of emotion regulation flexibility in different sense of purpose groups at the experimental level,Study 2a adopted the free writing task paradigm to explore the differences in the flexibility of polyregulation strategies among high,medium and low sense of purpose groups.Study 2b adopted the free writing task paradigm to reveal the differences in the flexibility of polyregulation goals among the three groups of goal-sense individuals.Study 3a used the sentence unscrambling task paradigm,implicitly initiating cognitive reappraisal strategies and distraction strategies,then evaluate the high and low negative pictures,examined the flexibility of individuals in different sense of purpose groups in structural strategies.Features,Study 3b adopts the sentence unscrambling task paradigm,activates hedonic goals and instrumental goals from the implicit level,evaluate high and low intensity negative picture,examines the characteristics of individuals in different sense of purpose groups in the structural regulation goal flexibility.Through the above six studies,the results show that:(1)The Adult Sense of Purpose Scale after localization has good reliability and validity,can be used as a standardized measurement tool among college students.(2)The relationship between sense of purpose and negative emotion was mediated by emotional regulation flexibility,that is,the sense of purpose negatively predicted the level of negative emotion through emotion regulation flexibility.(3)The high sense of purpose group has an advantage effect in the research on the emotion polyregulation strategies flexibility.The specific advantage is shown in more strategic quantity reserves,and the psychological processing mechanism that produces the advantage is cognitive effort;and high sense of purpose group has a dominance effect in the research on regulation goal flexibility.The specific advantage is that the variability of emotional goal is better,and the psychological processing mechanism that produces the advantage is flexibility.(4)Situation types will affect the flexibility of emotion polyregulation flexibility.In academic situations,the cognitive effort of the high sense of purpose group is the highest,and the emotion regulation effect is the best.(5)There is a trait-congruency effect in emotion structured strategies flexibility in the high sense of purpose group,which means that the high sense of purpose group has positive trait emotions and can flexible use two strategies to improve their emotions;there is a schema internalization mechanism in the flexibility of structural adjustment goals,which is reflected in the internalization of the tool goal schema in the high sense of goal group,which can improve the effect of emotion regulation.In conclusion,currently study draw the following conclusions:(1)emotion regulation flexibility mediated between college’s sense of purpose and negative emotions;(2)in terms of emotion polyregulation flexibility,the high purpose group produces an advantage.The psychological processing mechanism of the effect is cognitive effort and flexibility.In terms of structural emotion regulation flexibility,the psychological processing mechanism of the superiority effect of the high goal group is the trait consistency effect and the schema internalization mechanism;(3)High sense of purpose groups were more responsive and adaptive to situational changes.The meaning of the research is as follows:(1)The conclusion of this study is to advance the research on sense of purpose and emotion regulation flexibility,and to reveal the psychological processing mechanism of the superiority effect of the group with a high sense of purpose in emotion regulation flexibility.The relationship between sense of purpose and emotion regulation flexibility is comprehensively clarified from two perspectives,implicit and explicit;(2)This study found that emotion regulation flexibility is closely related to the characteristics of sense of purpose,emotional regulation and mental health.
