| The spiritual research of film is not only related to the image construction method of the film itself,but also the spiritual essence of film as an art.Paolo Sorrentino,one of the most important contemporary Italian directors,has repeatedly expressed in interviews his fascination with the relationship between the sacred and the profane,and has practiced his perception of the relationship between the profane and the sacred in his work by means of video,exploring the sacredness of man’s quest for spiritual transcendent in the midst of the profane.Sorrentino’s works present the transcendental style described by Schrader.Transcendental style means expressing Transcendent in the form of film visualization.Based on the purpose of expressing transcendent,Sorrentino innovated the way to realize the transcendental style of images,and transferred the possibility of transcendent from “the Wholly Other" mentioned by Schrader to “man” itself,embodying the Western philosophy of people-centered.This paper is based on Schrader’s “Transcendental Style” and distinguishes it from Schrader’s and the commonly discussed “Transcendental Style” with the title “New Transcendental Style”.This article is oriented by the auteuristic research,with the help of research methods such as philosophical research,cultural research,text analysis and comparative research,discussing the characteristics of the new transcendental style of Sorrentino’s films in terms of the transcendental baroque image aesthetics,the construction of transcendental space-time and the human-centered interweaving of secularity and sacredness.Sorrentino’s highly auteuristic cinematic form expands the possibilities of spiritual expression in cinema and offers a new perspective on the transcendental style of cinema. |
