Nowadays, the posthuman turn in the academic world emphasizes the process of de-anthropocentrism,especially targeting the anthropocentrism that takes Western white men as the model of human beings. It calls for resetting the “other”,including the subjectivity of things, nature, the body, and the female, and reconstructing the concept of human and ethical order of human society. In literary study, science fiction is often used as an experimental field of posthumanism because of its estrangement and reflection on humanity. The American female writer Ursula K.Le Guin(1929-2018)is the pioneer of science fiction who draws posthuman critic attention. From 1969 to 1976,Le Guin successively created three science fictions, often collectively known as “the trilogy of The Left Hand of Darkness” in China, including The Left Hand of Darkness,The Word for World is Forest, and The Dispossessed. She makes various reflections on the problem of the concept of human in Eurocentricism and the cultural crisis and cultural hegemony caused by in these three works. This thesis selects the trilogy as its object of study from posthuman stances, focuses on the reconfiguration of the marginalized other, and analyzes their posthuman feature, and thereby explores the posthuman ethical thought of Le Guin’s works. This paper studies on the androgyny in The Left Hand of Darkness, the human-animal hybrid in The Word for World Is Forest, and the Yin utopia imagination in The Dispossessed, and examines how the paradigm of Anthropocentrism is broken by this posthuman imaginations, and how they mediates in the reconceptualization of “human”,challenges its exclusive mechanism and cultural hegemony, and constructs a more inclusive way of co-existence.Le Guin describes the diverse individuals and the diverse possibilities of life in her works and takes the groups marginalized by humanism and anthropocentrism as the subjects of her writings. And this kind of “other” group presents posthuman characteristics. The reversion of object/subject,human/nonhuman,and male/female structure serves to explore the root of racial, gender, ecological and moral crises in the Western world. The scientific series is of great ethical significance in a time with advanced science and technology as well as constant crises and conflicts. |
