Research On Han Yu’s Argumentative Essays

Han Yu is a famous writer of ancient essays in China,he devoted a lot of energy to writing essays throughout his life.He has been successful in many types of essay writing,and argumentative essays are one of the more prominent categories.The content of Han Yu’s essay is substantive and persuasive,which is not only an important carrier for Han Yu to concentrate on conveying his thoughts,concepts,and propositions,but also shows Han Yu’s excellent and solid writing skills as a famous writer.This paper focuses on Han Yu’s argumentative essays and conducts targeted research on it.In addition to the introduction and epilogue,the main body of this paper is divided into three chapters.Firstly,we explore the ideological content of Han Yu’s argumentative essays in accordance with the main objects of his argumentative essays.Statements related to national political affairs,ideology and culture,social customs,special imagery and other things,showing Han Yu’s thought that he expects to take Confucianism and Taoism as the policy of governing the country,opposes the separatism of feudal vassals and towns,advocates good governance to support the people,makes the best use of talents for the country,respects Confucianism and exclusion of others,learns covers a wide range of doctrines,advocats ancient prose,uses essays to clarify Confucianism,expresses his dislike of the culture of contending for fame and slander,"believe in the Way and know it well",criticizes talent is buried,desires to be selected.Secondly,the techniques of Han Yu’s argumentative essays are refined and analysed in terms of structure,argumentation and language.In terms of structural techniques,the straightforward assertion and reasoning at the beginning of the argumentative essays gives Han Yu an advanced position in his reasoning,while at the end,Han Yu invigorates the spirit of the essay and elaborately concludes it with a deeper,more focused and clearer meaning,leaving a decisive aftertaste.In terms of argumentative technique,Han Yu is skilled at consolidating his arguments through a succession of examples,explaining and analysing the problems of another’s viewpoint from the perspective of the viewpoint itself,the right and wrong of two types of people or two things naturally manifest themselves by contrast,and drawing on similar,common truths to show the correctness and rationality of his viewpoint.In terms of linguistic technique,Han Yu is good at seizing the the linguistic component of a ranking sentence to emphasize the meaning of the essay while strengthening the momentum of the essay,incorporating figurative language to give people a more tangible perception of the reasoning and thus enhance its persuasive power,and dividing one meaning into two parts to express it in a rounded and detailed manner.Thirdly,the value of Han Yu’s argumentative essays is considered from three perspectives: the ancient literary movement,the development of the ancient argumentative essay,and its significance for contemporary argumentative writing.Han Yu’s essays are rich in systematic and practical theories of ancient writing,which provide a theoretical basis for ancient writing,and some of Han Yu’s argumentative essays themselves are also exemplary ancient literary masterpieces,which have positive significance in guiding the practice of ancient writing.Han Yu’s argumentative essay writing is still practical,which carrys forward the declining tradition of practical writing of argumentative essays since its inception.Han Yu’s argumentative essays has a promoting effect on the independence of the “yuan” style,“bian” style and “ jie” style,Han Yu’s argumentative essays also contributes to the renewal and improvement of the writing system of “shuo” style and “wendui” style.Han Yu’s argumentative essays as a whole are characterised by their meaningfulness and ease of comprehension,from which contemporary argumentative writing can still benefit and learn how to write a good argumentative essay.
