World War I profoundly changed the historical development of Ireland, but such an important historical event tended to be concealed in the local society in the middle and late 20 th century. It is easy for a national collective to forget the memory of war,so why should people remember their country’s past? This paper mainly discusses these problems, and on the basis of combing the historical facts related to Ireland and the First World War,analyzes several military narratives that have appeared in post-war Irish society since 1919.Before 1937,there were Republican narrative, unified narrative and centrist narrative. The article keeps pace with the times, and investigates the content and formation process of these war memory narratives,as well as their close relationship with Irish national identity.Firstly, from the theoretical perspective of memory research, this paper points out that collective memory can be formed by developing the attributes and processes of recalling collective memory, which is the premise of discussing collective memory responsibility. The author summarizes the characteristics of war memory and explains why citizens have the obligation to remember war.The article then mainly introduces the international background before and after the outbreak of the First World War and the important historical events experienced by Irish people in the war. This part not only explains the main historical background, but also aims to explain the debate and forgetting of the memory of World War I in Irish society after the war,and its causes have been initially produced during the war.Secondly, the article focuses on the Anglo-Irish War and the Irish Civil War,and takes the national memory and typical commemorative events of World War I in Ireland as examples to show the complexity of the formation process of national identity and military memory.Society.In the early post-war period. Finally, the author makes a concentrated argument on Irish nationalist history and the memory of World War I.This paper holds that the fundamental premise of national reconciliation is the environmental change at the political level. In addition, telling the past responsibly is an inevitable moral requirement of any progressive collective.Only after meeting the requirements of natural justice and historical ethics can we expect the collective to maintain diversity and open memory. All parties overcome stubborn prejudice and historical hatred through sincere reconciliation and realize a peaceful future.
