In today’s competitive society, the academic pressure faced by high school students who are about to usher in the college entrance examination cannot be underestimated. In recent years, severe depression, anxiety, interpersonal sensitivity and even suicide in high school students continue to appear, and it is urgent to increase the attention to the mental health problems of high school students. In the high school stage with tight learning time, learning takes up a lot of time for high school students, and the time they can spend on relaxation and social interaction is limited, and high school is a critical period of students’ psychological development,in a stressful environment, high school students are prone to serious shyness, ego depletion phenomenon, and the occurrence of ego depletion will greatly affect the learning efficiency and quality of life of high school students. Therefore,it is important to increase the understanding of shyness and ego depletion among high school students. In order to explore the influence mechanism of shyness on ego depletion, understand the correlation between shyness, relative deprivation, loneliness and ego depletion, and help high school students reduce the occurrence of ego depletion, this study constructs a chain mediation model with shyness as the independent variable, relative deprivation and loneliness as the mediating variable, and ego depletion as the dependent variable, and verifies it.This study used the Shyness Scale RCBS,Relative Deprivation Scale,Loneliness Scale UCLA,and Self Regulatory Fatigue Scale SRF-S as research tools to survey1201 students from different grades of a senior high school in Jiangsu Province. The data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and SPSS PROCESS 3.5 plugins. The main research conclusions are as follows:(1)There are significant differences in shyness, relative deprivation and ego depletion among high school students in different genders, places of origin, course selection tendency and grades. There are significant differences in loneliness among high school students in different genders, course selection tendency and grades.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between shyness, relative deprivation, loneliness and ego depletion among high school students.(3)High school students’ shyness significantly predicts ego depletion through three pathways: relative deprivation plays a mediating role between shyness and ego depletion;Loneliness plays a mediating role between shyness and ego depletion;Relative deprivation and loneliness play a chain mediating role between shyness and ego depletion.Based on the research results, this study gives relevant countermeasures and suggestions to help high school students reduce ego depletion.
