Study On Shanxi Coal Mine Accidents(1907-1949)

Baojin Mining Company was established in Yangquan in 1907,which was the first coal mining company in Shanxi with advanced machinery and equipment,marking the beginning of modern coal mining in Shanxi.Since then,Shanxi’s modern coal mining industry has experienced three stages: rise and development,occupation and oppression by the Japanese invaders,reception and recovery after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.In this historical process of development and change,coal mine accidents with high frequency and heavy casualties cannot be ignored.Based on local records,survey reports and other original documents as well as existing research on coal mine safety,this paper makes a statistical analysis of modern Shanxi coal mine accidents.From the perspective of history,it is found that there are three main reasons for the occurrence of modern Shanxi coal mine accidents.First,the technical reasons for the occurrence of coal mine accidents are the “lack” of safety equipment,the shortage of professional and technical personnel and the backward technology.Secondly,the “absence” of safety management organization,chaotic management of employment system and corruption of coal mine management caused by opium smoking are the management reasons for mine accidents.Finally,the legal cause of mine accidents is the general chaos caused by mine side violating safety laws and regulations for interests.The deeper cause of these three reasons is the lack of“people-oriented” spirit,interests first.Similarly,the prevention and rescue after the occurrence of mining accidents in modern Shanxi coal mines still lack the spirit of“people-oriented”.Driven by interests,the prevention and control of mining accidents,miners’ rescue and rescue guarantee have not been fully implemented.Therefore,the modern Shanxi coal mine accident has brought extensive and far-reaching influence:from the economic aspect,the frequent occurrence of coal mine accident will hinder the development of local economy;From the miners’ point of view,the miners’ lack of “people-oriented” spirit leads to the miners’ tragic fate,and the coal miners’ movement gradually rises.From the perspective of coal mine safety development,after the founding of New China,Shanxi coal mine has learned from the past experience and lessons,established the spirit of “people-oriented” and implemented the production policy of “safety first”,and the frequency of mine accidents and the casualty rate of miners have been effectively controlled.Modern Shanxi coal mine accident is an epitome of our industrial development history,through exploring the occurrence of modern Shanxi coal mine accident,the cause,prevention and rescue after mine accident,we conclude that industrial production can not blindly pursue the interest,should set up “people-oriented” spirit,put the workers’ life safety in the first place,the conclusion is important for the development of our industrial future.
