Abstract/Summary:
Virginia Woolf continued to pay attention to topics such as women’s lives and destiny, the connection between the ecological environment and human life, and the status of gender relationships in the creation. She created a number of novel works with rich and inspiring themes. With the global problems of ecological problems in the 20 th century,Ecological feminism came into being. The convergence of feminism with the same period has formed an ecological feminist theory and developed into a new way of literary criticism.Researchers have found that there are many secrets between Woolf and ecological feminism theories.Woolf broke the traditional way of narrative with the human protagonist,so that nature presents a subject of equality with humans in both the story and narrative level;from the debut of The Voyage Out to Between the Acts, different types of women’s images to convey their feminist views, and male characters also show the characteristics of three-dimensional plump;the "gender" and "nature" in the novel are inseparable.Woolf hopes to break the opposition relationship of men and women, nature and humans, and humans of each other. This coincides with ecofeminism’s hope of breaking anthropocentrism and androcentrism under logocentrism, and echoes ecofeminism’s hope of eliminating the hierarchical oppression brought by binary opposition through the construction of multiple subjects represented by nature and women. Many ecofeminists interpret Woolf’s works. The ecofeminism thought contained in Woolf’s novels can be seen from it.However, most studies focused on Woolf’s most wellknown classics, such as Mrs.Dalloway,To the Lighthouse and Orlando, and pay little attention to the other less known relatively but also important novels. Some other studies overemphasized the relationship between women and nature and unconsciously strengthened the binary opposition, which went against the original intention of ecofeminists.Based on ecofeminism and other relevant theories, this paper adopts the method of close text reading to interpret Woolf’s novels in different periods by centering on the nature, character images and the complex relationship between them and excavates the nature and female characters with the dominant position in her works. At the same time,it focuses on the unique significance of the study of male role from the perspective of ecofeminism, and discusses Woolf’s breakthrough of the traditional binary opposition thinking in her novels and efforts of realizing the overall liberation. Finally, this paper analyzes how Woolf,as a pioneer of feminism, provides impetus for the development of ecofeminism theory in her novel creation.
