A Project Report On The Translation Of Zhuang Internal Medicine And Pediatrics(Excerpts)

Zhuang medicine,a vital part of Zhuang culture,stands out as a valuable asset of traditional Chinese medicine.With the widespread of traditional Chinese medical culture around the world,Zhuang medicine,with its unique ethnomedical features,also faces a promising future for international communication in this process,where translation plays an instrumental role.Under this background,the translator was commissioned to translate Zhuang Internal Medicine and Pediatrics,one of the series of the 13 th Five-Year Plan on National Textbook of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Higher Education.Chapters 2 to 3 are excerpted from the textbook for the translation report.Based on the analyses of the project background,the text type and features,and the target readers,the translator conducts case studies at three levels:lexical expression,syntactic structure,and textual connection.At lexical level,translation methods,such as literal translation and zero translation,are adopted to translate the Zhuang medical nouns in order to preserve the Zhuang ethnic culture,and translation techniques,such as nominalization,are used to translate other word classes such as verbs,adjectives,making the translation closer to static feature of English expressions.At syntactic level,the translator deals with the non-subject sentence and compound sentence,by translation techniques such as adding the implicit subject and shift,making it fit in with the hypotaxis features of English sentences.At textual level,the translator makes the meanings and logical relations of the paragraphs explicit,by use of techniques such as addition,restructuring,making the connection better fit for the explicit connection of English texts.In addition to that,the translator reorganizes the form of the source text into a visual one,in an attempt to make it more accessible to readers.By the exploration of the translation key points and strategies of the Zhuang medical textbook,the report enriches the resources for the Zhuang medical translation studies,hoping to provide some inspiring experiences and reflections for the future Zhuang medical translation studies and practices.
