Grant Wood(1891-1942)was active in the early 20 th century in the United States,when the American native art was flourishing.As a native American painter,He worked with artists such as Thomas Hart Benton(1889-1975)and John Steuart Curry(1897-1946)to physically promote the American regionalism painting.In terms of artistic concepts and painting techniques,he created "modern painting" in the United States,which is different from European modernist art.This paper takes Grant Wood’s local painting art as the research object,the full text is divided into five parts: the first part,introduces the painter’s main artistic activities of the American social background and art overview;The second part combs Grant Wood’s artistic career and clarifies the germination and growth process of his local consciousness.Three and four parts are the main points of the paper.The third part analyzes the characteristics of Grant Wood’s local painting language from four aspects: subject matter,composition,modeling and color.The fourth part,combined with the implication of the painter’s local themes and the atmosphere of The Times,finds out the personal vision and national feelings behind his local paintings,and explores his spiritual connotation from three aspects,namely,the pioneering spirit,the attachment to the ideal country and the singing of the founding epic of the United States.Finally,it introduces Grant Wood’s historical influence on American art history and his inspiration to Chinese local painting.In a word,Grant Wood’s rural style paintings originated from the natural farming environment of Iowa,representing the love of generations of immigrants for the happy homeland created by their hands and hands.Based on this,he participated in the construction of the historical tradition of the emerging United States and the tide of American-style native art with his painting creation.
