| Tan Dun’s status as a composer has been recognized by one award after another over the past four decades,from the 1983 International Weber Chamber Music Competition to the 2023 ABU Dhabi Arts Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.While he is committed to the exchange of music culture between the East and the West,he also focuses on the exploration of local Chinese folk music culture.Through the collection of Fenghuang Miao ethnic group in western Hunan,Yao ethnic group in Jiangyong County,Hunan Province,Sandu Shui Autonomous County in Guizhou Province,Dunhuang in Gansu Province and other places,he has produced many works based on local Chinese folk music,which has made him famous both at home and abroad and all over the world.In the article "Tan Dun wins Lifetime Achievement Award in ABU Dhabi Art Festival,’Ode to Mercy’Communicates the World with Music" on March 27,2023,it mentioned a passage of Tan Dun,"Music is like an invisible Silk Road,which can connect people’s hearts.I hope this work can let audiences around the world understand where Chinese people come from,what they believe in and what they will do in the future."].Tan Dun is known to have created many works related to sacrificial themes,and it was in the process of creating such works that he found what he calls bloodlines.However,this paper only studies the creation of "Ghost Opera" and "Fire Ritual" to commemorate innocent martyrs in war.This paper is composed of four parts,which are search,image,detail,appearance,distant view,shape,continuation and conclusion,all of which are composed of verbs and nouns.Four verbs represent the specific process of the author’s research on these two works and the basic sequence and logic of analysis preparation--analysis--analysis and summary followed in the construction of this paper.Four nouns represent the summary of the contents of this chapter,such as the research purpose,research object,narrative subject and so on.The first chapter is looking for reflections.Here the image has three layers of meaning.The first layer is the impression of Tan Dun,which is established by sorting out relevant documents of Tan Dun himself.The second layer is the impression that Tan Dun often talks about the important Nuo in Chu culture or the folk sacrificial culture in music creation.Taking Hunan,Tan Dun’s childhood living environment,as the starting point,it analyzes the music score of the folk sacrificial part in the Collection of Chinese National and Folk Instrumental Music · Hunan Volume.Finally,in the process of concrete analysis of Tan Dun’s two works,we can have a sensitive perception of the internalized witchcraft color or the connotation of witchcraft culture in them.The third layer is the image of these two works,through the analysis of stage design,band composition and other aspects.The second chapter is about fine products and their appearance.It refers to the microscopic part of music creation.It mainly analyzes the important musical materials in the two works,such as melody,noise,voice and other specific creative materials.It involves the analysis of melody,orchestration and other aspects,and assisted by diagrams.The third chapter is the distant view and its shape.Its meaning refers to the macroscopic part of music creation.It mainly includes the analysis of the structure of the movement and the whole work.The influence of the connection of specific materials,sound and timbre on the macro structure of music works is analyzed in Chapter two.It involves the horizontal and vertical arrangement of musical forms and voice parts,and the color change of the instrumentation in the macro structure.It is assisted by volume waveform diagram and spectrum diagram.The fourth chapter is the continuation and conclusion.This paper starts with the analysis and summary from three aspects: the application of opera and folk song elements and the retention of theme style,the creation techniques of sacrificial themes and the balance between Chinese and Western composition techniques in these two works.Through the analysis and research of these two works,it is expected to provide reference examples for the creation of music of this theme,and through this analysis and research to find Tan Dun’s "full sound","organic music" and other creative concepts in specific works,and finally to achieve a certain understanding of his creative concepts.And try to close to the logical framework of the creation process to understand the composer in the creation process of the original material with ethnic innovation process. |
