The marriage of the Liao emperors was different from the marriage of the emperors of the Central Plains dynasty.They had fixed intermarrying families and had very distinct political colors.Marriage served politics and politics acted on marriage.The Liao Dynasty emperor,concubine,royal family and later family are all the research objects of emperor marriage,and they have different degrees of influence on the development of Liao Dynasty.The choice of mate by the emperors of the Liao Dynasty was influenced by multiple factors,first of all,the emperors of the Liao Dynasty adhered to the political tradition and rendered theological colors by maintaining a fixed intermarriage based on the "green ox and white horse",so as to establish a deified personal image to maintain his rule.Secondly,the nine emperors of the Liao Dynasty all encountered many challenges in the process of governing the country,and the regime was once in danger,and the emperor,as the head of a country,although his status was respected,in order to maintain his personal ruling position and ensure the stability of the regime,the choice of a mate needed to be subject to the consideration of the political situation.Finally,the fixed intermarriage family was large and there were many women of the right age,and the emperor carefully chose from them,referring to his family lineage and appearance and character.The intermarriage families of the emperors were mainly divided into those headed by Empress Chunqin and those headed by Empress Ruizhi.In addition,there were some concubines from other families or clans who were not known.Empress of Chunqin’s family included:Empress Chunqin of Taizu,Empress Jing ’an of Taizong,Empress Huaijie of Shizong,Consort Xiao of Shengzong,Empress Qin’ai of Shengzong,Empress Renyi of Xingzong,Empress Xuanyi of Daozong,Consort Xiao Tansi of Daozong,Consort Yuan of Emperor Tianzuo.Empress of the Ruizhi ’s family included: Empress Jing’an of Taizong,Empress Ruizhi of Jingzong,Empress Rende of Shengzong,Consort Xiao Sanqian of Xingzong,Consort Xiao Duolilan of Emperor Tianzuo,Consort De of Emperor Tianzuo.Family is an indispensable element of society,for the ordinary people,whether the husband and wife relationship is stable and harmonious,the number and quality of children are determined by the operation of the family,for the emperor,these issues are not only related to the inheritance of the blood of the Ye Lv family,but also related to the fortunes of the Liao.The marital relationship of the Liao emperors was divided into three cases: a happy marriage,a happily married couple,a happy couple,a harmonious appearance and a lack of historical records.Fertility varies from large families with lots of grandchildren to few or no heirs.The characteristics of the emperor’s marriage in Liao Dynasty were very distinct.The Khitan’s attitude of respecting women and the powerful power of the later family made the concubine actively participate in politics.The unique folk customs and open social atmosphere allowed the emperor to marry regardless of the so-called ethical restrictions,regardless of the profession;The special status of the emperor made the marriage inevitably mixed with a lot of political factors.The emperor’s marriage played a huge role in the political situation and even the society,both positive and negative.
