A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of The Tour Guide Commentaries Of Qi Culture Museums

This practice report is based on a C-E translation task of this translator,that is,translating tour guide commentaries of Qi Culture Museum and Guan Zhong Memorial Hall in Linzi District,Zibo City.The commentaries mainly concern the Qi Culture and the life story of Guan Zhong,one of the representative figures of the culture.The English version is aimed at helping foreign tourists learn more about Qi Culture and Guan Zhong,enhancing their interests and improving their visiting experience.In the process of translation practice,this translator finds that most of the difficulties lie in the precise comprehension of the source text,as well as the effective translation of the target text.That requires translators to be aware of the cultural differences between the source text and the target text,and master the syntax rules and idiomatic expressions of the target text,so as to ensure the quality of the translation and then increase the acceptance of foreign tourists.After consulting relevant literature and books,this translator finds that the context theory and the metafunctions of grammar function based on Halliday’s Systemic-Functional Grammar center on the cultural differences and the syntax rules,idiomatic expressions respectively,which may effectively increase the acceptance combined with the translation strategy of domesticating.Therefore,from the perspective of Systemic-Functional Grammar,this translator translates the source text mainly by the translation strategy of domestication,supplemented by free translation,imitation,variation and other translation methods,in order to provide a reference to the translation of similar texts.This paper consists of five chapters: Chapter 1 is a brief introduction to the translation project,mainly involving its background,significance and the structure of the thesis.Chapter 2 describes the whole translation process,Shandong University of Technology ABSTRACT including preparation,Translation process and quality control.Chapter 3contains a review of translation theory and the choice of translation strategies.Chapter 4,the case study,mainly focuses on culture-loaded words,structural conversion of sentences and cohesion of discourses.Chapter 5 is the conclusion,including the major findings,demerits of this report and suggestions.
